Fleur-de-lis (The Lily Flower)You won't find an iris more plain or simple than this. It was about the only one to adorn the flower beds around 1900, before intensive cross breeding began. I still grow it. It's the first of all my iris to bloom, sort of a harbinger of what's to come.

I have nyjer thistle feeders further south in the same part of the garden.

This is the first tomato plant I've ever grown and I'm sure the bees have helped it along!

My June Garden - daisies on top of south end of the wall with solar dragonfly

My June GardenI have been really busy planting since we added a new retaining wall upper tier. This gave us more yard space above and replaced a useless steep slope to the original retaining wall. Chrysanthemums - dark pink blooms

ChrysanthemumsThese are one of my favorite flowers (chrysanthemums) or mums for short. They live well here in South Carolina and I can always get them to bloom 2 times a season. Cactus Flower - white flower tinged with pin on the ends of the lower petals

Cactus FlowerI was immediately drawn to this flower because of the contrast of the delicate blossom next to the sharpness of the prickles beside it. To me, it was a metaphor for life. The blossom also seemed to pull one into its deep center. This was shot in Pasadena, CA.

The Chicago Peace Rose - dense pink rose with hints of yellow

An Iris For Betty (Yellow Iris) - intensely yellow bloom

A bee on apple blossoms.

This is What Makes a Happy Spring DayOur Winter was made longer when we had a cold sting in the tail of March and heavy snow too. We feared our busiest friends, the tiny wild bees of the forest would suffer from the cold and lack of forage. This week has truly given meaning to the word 'Spring' with an explosion of blossom.

Blooming Wisteria - purple wisteria blooms

Blooming WisteriaHere is a closeup of wisteria blooms. It is not a very good picture, really. It means a lot to me, though. I grew this plant from seed. It is not unusual to have a 15 year wait period between seed and bloom. A good reason to start wisteria from cuttings rather than seed.

A dandelion seed head outside.

A ladybug on a plant.
