Cleaning My ComputerI am getting ready to move and discovered all this dust in the areas you can't see. I began with a soft dust brush going over everything, the keyboard, the printer, the back of the hard drive, router, and power strip. Then I used my hair dryer.

Clean Laptop Keys With Interdental BrushRecently I found a naughty little piece of an almond under my "R" key, causing it not to work properly. I've found that interdental brushes for your teeth work so well for cleaning laptop keys. Gently press the brush tip under and scoop out the mess.

Thumb Drive for Regular Backups"Thumb drives," also known as "flash drives," are very inexpensive and plug into any available USB port on your computer. I don't have a lot of important files to back up, but I learned that frequent backups matter. During last July's heatwave, my old hard drive was fried.

Cleaning a ComputerUse eyeglass cleaner to dust of the monitor and use a damp Q-tip between the keys. Use a feather duster to give it a dust, lightly over all. This works for me. You can't use anything strong on the monitor.

Remove Keys For CleaningWhen my keyboard need cleaning, I made a sketch of where each key belonged, and then gently lifted each key off using a wooden kabob stick. It was then easy to clean. I just clipped the keys back on, cleaning each one as I went.

Use Alcohol Wipes On KeyboardI use alcohol wipes, such as those used for wiping skin before giving oneself an injection for diabetes. They clean the keys and spaces between them really well. They leave no residue, and are economical. Keep away from pets and children.

Cleaning a KeyboardYou can purchase keyboards that will go through the dishwasher, or wash by hand. I don't have one, but you can also purchase a can of pressurized air with a long thin straw attachment to shoot a blast of air into the small spaces between the keys.

Use Eraser to Clean ComputerI have a white Mac and it always gets black dirt on it. The safest way I found to clean it so it looks like new is to use a pencil eraser. Be sure to use a white eraser, not a hard one designed for ink.

Clean Dust From Your CPUIf you have a problem with dust in your house, it's worth it to blow the dust from your computer. You have to unscrew and remove your CPU casing (make sure the power is OFF first) and then use the blower to clear any dust inside the PC.

Use a Cool Hair Dryer to Clean Computer KeyboardUse your hair dryer on the cool setting to clean your computer keyboard instead of spending money on expensive canned air. Turn the keyboard upside down and blow the air up into it. I clean the tower (CPU) now and then as well. Dust and hair accumulate around the fan and vents can cause all sorts of problems, such as over-heating.

Regular Maintenance For Better Computer PerformanceSpeed up your computer. Run disk clean up and defrag once a week, minimum. Contact internet explorer, if you have it, and give them permission to enter and control your system. They can go in and delete redundant programs and free up a LOT of space saving memory and increase speed when you restart your system. This is what takes so long to reboot.
