Renew Existing Window ShadesI wanted to change the shades on my dining room light to match my decor. I made a pattern with newspaper, transferred the pattern to fabric, added iron on interfacing for stability, used fabric glue at the seams, and glued a decorative braid at the top and bottom edges.

Make Curtains Out Of Pillow CasesBeing a new homeowner I didn't have enough curtains for all my windows, particularly the small kitchen window above the sink. I took a pillowcase and split the seams and cut it in half at the end, hemmed them and made a temporary pair of curtains for the window. They fit perfect and the pattern matches the wallpaper in the kitchen!

 

Putting Curtains on the RodI have always struggled with getting curtains and drapes on to the rod, then I put a snap clothespin on the end of the rod and voila, the curtains/drapes no longer slide off as you are trying to put them on the brackets.

 

Cardboard Tube From A Fabric Bolt As A Curtain RodI used the round tube from a fabric bolt for a curtain rod once and it worked wonderfully! I had some contact paper in the wood-look pattern and covered the tube with it and on the ends I poofed up some fabric and covered the ends with it and rubberbands.

 

Decorating A Curtain Rod With Tennis BallsMake lively curtain rods with tennis balls. For my living room curtains, I bought a wooden dowel and mounted it above the window.

 

Alternative to Spring Rods for SheersI needed spring rods for my sheers at several windows, but they were more expensive than I could afford. When we go to home fairs or safety fairs, we often get yardsticks. I paint them white, cut them down and stick sponges on either end to hold up the sheers. They're not moveable, but they do stay up if you leave them alone. By springmaid5
