Patent Leather ShoesShine your patent leather shoes by rubbing them with a small amount of petroleum jelly. Leather shoes or purses can be shined quickly with a light application of furniture polish.

To preserve leather shoes, first clean thoroughly with saddle soap, then rub down with mink oil, working the oil well into seams. Both are available at better shoe stores. The shoes will be waterproof and remain supple for a long time.

You can also clean them with Vaseline. I use either cotton balls or tissue to rub Vaseline in, with circular motions. Then let set for about an hour, then rub, and buff with a soft cloth. Never clean with harsh chemicals on this sort of shoes.
