I want to share a photo of one of my projects from several years ago. I found a great wicker basket with a fluted edge and it had a handle on it. I kept looking at this basket and flipped it over and decided to cut off the handles and make it into a lampshade for a lamp I had.
I wanted to weave a nice basket to hide a plastic flower pot inside. Sheets of paper were perfect for this. It is not difficult at all and very cheap.
Upcycle sturdy cardboard boxes to make this pretty display gift basket. This would be perfect as a thoughtful present or as a donation to an auction.
Recycled crafts are very popular, good for the planet, and help to save you money on supplies. Upcycle a plastic water bottle into a gift basket that then only needs to be filled with the items especially chosen for your recipient.
Recycle a half gallon milk carton to make this classy gift basket. This page has a pattern for making a recycled milk carton basket.
Using colorful spring fabrics you can sew up a pretty liner for an old or plain basket. This is a page about spring basket liner.
Does anyone have a craft using small baskets (3 in. long and 2 in. high)?
Thanks.

I am going away this weekend. I want to take some stuff to keep me busy, while the man is out fishing! Anyone know what I should pack to make a craft kit? You know materials, or ideas I can work on? Please let me know!
Hey, I do that too. I knit and crochet. i use a big shoe box with lid to put my yarn and needles or hook in, and the instructions will fit inside as well. And when I'm done, I just close the lid and everything is all together. I even take mine on trips to the dr. office, etc. Right now, I'm knitting watch caps for the men in the family for Christmas . . . all in camo yarn. Good luck, and have fun!
Amanda,I too like to take something to do with my hands when on trips. I first descide what project I want to do,then take what is needed to complete that project. I try not to take a large project. That would be too much! I do like to take embroidery projects, beading projects, plastic canvas and you could even take pictures to sort out for scrapbooking.
HI, I like to make my own jewelry. When I travel I take a small fishing tackle box. In it I carry just enough beads, findings, stringing material and small tools to make a couple of creative projects. It closes very securely and keeps everything in its place.
By the way I use a very large tackle box for much of my at home beading supplies as well, they work very well for holding craft supplies too.
the ideas already listed are great for take along projects. I enjoy knitting on the knifty knitter, especially in the car. If you make cards it is a great time to get a head start on birthday or even christmas cards.
I'd like to know how to make a cloth basket using old clothes and material scraps. I have everything from basic fabrics to jeans to sweaters to use.
To make a folding basket (one that stores flat, but pops up when you need it by tying ribbons at the corners) -
1. Figure out the dimensions you want. You said you want rectangular baskets, so find a box (shoebox?) that is the size you want, and open it up flat. This will become your pattern. You can adjust as needed.
2. Cut 2 pieces of fabric the total size of the box (bottom, sides and ends)
3. Cut some cardboard or funfoam the size of the bottom, and each of the sides (5 pieces total). they shoudl be a littel bit smaller than the sides.
4. Cut some flannel, batting, or towel to go in the middle to give it a little body.
5. Layer all these things together lke a sandwich - outside fabric, cardboard/foam, flannel/batting, inside of the basket fabric. Pin everything together around the outside, and along where the box will "fold" being sure there is no cardboard/foam underneat the folds.
6. Stitch all these seams (will look almost like tic tac toe with a box around it.
7. Cut ribbon that you like into pieces about 6 inches long, and stitch them diagonally at the corners (about 1/2 inch from the tip of the corner.
8. Use bias tape, and sew it all around the outside.
Tie up your corners, and you have a basket!
If you use the fun foam, you can wash it, but don't put them in the dryer. If you use cardboard, don't wash it. I have also used needlepoint canvas for the inside, but it is bulky.
Can someone please give some info on how to decorate a bath & body basket and a basket for Valentine's Day. I make candles, lotions, oils, shower gels, etc. but I am fresh of decoration ideas. I am not too crafty but can be with step by step info and pictures. I need it for 2 presentations. I am fresh out of ideas.
You could cushion the basket w wash cloths. They could be folded in fancy napkin forms.
Hi,you can go to to a dollar store and purchase large plastic bowls, use red and white raffia, put your items in and wrap the whole thing with cellophane in valentine colors
Last year I made bath & body baskets for the women in my family. I bought cheap bread pans and painted them pink, purple, and blue then decorated them with stickers. I then bought little wooden knobs and painted them and put a C on one and an H on the other for Hot and Cold knobs on a tub. I then bought wooden balls that have a flat side and painted them to match the tub and glued them on the bottom for the feet of the tubs. My mom still has hers if you need I can take a picture and email it to you my email is barfydoogin @ yahoo.com (remove spaces)
