A nice holiday tip I ran across while surfing the net was to add holiday touches to items already around the house, like putting bows on figurines, etc. I think that's a great idea and will use some gratis ribbon I got to put red bows on some of mine. And then after the holidays, it's easy to clean up and store!
I buy rolls of wired ribbon at the Dollar Tree, make bows, large and small and use them to adorn candlesticks, wreaths, lamps, a large bow is placed on my mailbox. I use strips of the bows to add elegance to hang ornaments, attach mesh ribbon to my Christmas tree.

An idea for Christmas decorating is to use wrapping to wrap framed art work you no longer want or are tired of. Put a nice bow on it for a finished look and hang on the wall.

The first decoration I always put out right after Thanksgiving is the nativity set. Mine is Precious Moments and made of porcelain so it goes on the server, not under the tree.
Glue mirrored tiles to ornament hangers or pieces of ribbon, then hang from your Christmas tree for a beautiful and sparkly look. You could get by with using less lights due to the reflection these tiles will produce.
To give your couch a cute decorative look for Christmas wrap your throw pillows in red, green, or plaid dish towels or fabrics and secure at back with safety pin, this will make them look like Christmas presents. You can even add gingham ribbons or wire ribbons that will hold a bow etc.
