Homemade MarmaladeMaking your own marmalade is so easy. It's also a good way to use up everything that comes with the orange fruit, from the meat to the juice to the skin. The trick to this bright and vibrant marmalade is in the boiling method. Using pectin is completely optional. This recipe shows both ways.

Total Time: 1.5 hours

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium oranges
  • 2 cups sugar
  • water
  • 1 pack of pectin (optional)

Steps:

  1. Wash oranges. Peel orange skin as thick as possible, then cut into thin strips.
  2. Homemade Marmalade
     
  3. Cut orange fruit along with its inner skin into small segments.

  5. In a pot, boil the orange skins skins until they soften. Drain, soak in cold water, and then reboil. Doing this a couple times rids the orange peels of their bitterness, resulting in the most yummy marmalade ever.
  6. Homemade Marmalade
     
  7. Cook the orange segments in a few tablespoons of water until softened. Add the cooked and softened peel, sugar, (pectin if you're using it), then add fresh water to cover. Bring to a boil and simmer until it thickens, about 45 minutes to an hour. Cool and refrigerate.
