I use 'Cook Top' cleaning creme for smooth top ranges (made by Elco Industries) although I have a gas stove. It was recommended by Maytag, Corning and Sears. I get it at Sears stores for about $8. for 20 oz. Just use it with a rag (I throw it away after), or for stubborn spots, leave the cream (actually thick liquid) on for awhile and just wipe off with a cloth.

It's actually not hard to do even with these arthritic hands.

So my roommate made dinner and used too high of a heat while cooking. This resulted in heat damage to the stove. Is there anyway I can fix it?

You can try Barkeeper's Friend. If that doesn't do it, the stove may be permanently discolored.

Dampen the area, leave some baking soda on it for several minutes, then scrub.

Don't try to remove the stain with anything that will scratch the enamel.

Easy Off Oven Clean should loosen it so it can be wiped up.

Remove the stove eye or raise it up if it can't be removed. Cover up your counter space and anything that is not enamel.

Spray the area with Easy Off oven cleaner and cover it with plastic wrap and let it set for an hour or more. It should wipe up easily.

I have to clean around my stove eyes about once a year to remove these stains.

I hope this will work for you.

You can also try to make a paste of vinegar/baking soda and salt (equal proportions--like 1 TBSP each) and lay it on the stain--almost like you are frosting a cake--but with a soft spatula or plastic spoon--DO NOT use anything metal.

DO NOT rub it in, just spread, let it set for 15-20 minutes and with a damp white cloth or clean sponge gently remove--DO NOT use elbow grease here--just gently wipe up. It should remove the spot if it is just a stain.

If it lightens but not removes completely, repeat the process until it is gone.

If that doesn't work and it is a burn, that damage is most likely permanent.

Stove tops can be permanently burned if heat and grease are left on for a long period of time and someone continues to use the burners.
Hopefully your burns can be removed.

A paste with baking soda, water and vinegar (Pghgirl's formula) usually works but you can use one of the little green scrub pads (just do everything gently and take your time).
There are also stove-top cleaners at big box stores that does a good job and also a product named Soft Scrub also works without scratching.

Check out these links for other suggestions.

I don't know why not. I used to use it when I had a glass top one, it was black colored and I never had an issue. I did have to make sure I rinsed it off good so it would not streak on the black.

Soft scub should work. If it doesn't, try Barkeepers Friend.
