Making a Quilt

January 18, 2008

Blue and white quilt with lace panels. Here is a very easy way to make a quilt in no time at all. I purchased the lace panels at the Dollar Store.

Directions

  1. Sew the lace panels to a sheet.
  2. Advertisement

  3. Between the lace panels, sew doilies (also sold at the Dollar store).
  4. Purchase a sheet one size larger than the sheet you sewed the lace panels on. Purchase a blanket or use an old one you have on hand.
  5. Place the sheet down, lay the blanket on top, than add the sheet with the lace panels. Sew on the edge of the panels through all three layers of material and blanket.
  6. Trim the edge within two inches.
  7. Fold the edge over one time and you will have a one inch edging. (That is the white color around the edge of the quilt.)

You will be able to wash the quilt in the washing machine and dry it in the dryer without mishap.

Let it snow!

Rather than creating a patchwork top, you can simply make a whole cloth quilt using a single piece of fabric and tying the layers. A fun alternative to a bias binding is the use of ric rac as trim. This is a page about how to make a whole cloth tied quilt with ric rac trim.
