I see where you can fly for $49 to Jacksonville, Florida each way. I try to check it out and can't bring anything up. What's the trick?

What airlines was running that special? The times I have seen what seemed like a good deal like that ended up being if I was flying in state, say from Jacksonville to Ft Lauderdale, not St Louis to Ft Lauderdale.
Don't know about that airfare, but was once told by a travel agent to go on one of those web-sites that sell discounted airfare after midnight. That's when the airlines release unsold seats and you can get really good prices. These are generally tickets that will be used in the very near future.
These are usually promotional fares for a limited time and from specific airport to airports. I'm in TN and we get $39 to FL occasionally. My suggestion is that you call the general number for the airport you'll be flying from and ask them for the regional and/or low-cost airlines that fly from that airport. Call those specific airlines and ask for the fares for your destination or ask them what promotional fares they have and how long they will last.
There is a website called travelzoo.com that features weekly low fares, also Budget Travel magazine's website (probably budgetravel.com or budgettravel.com). Be sure to ask what add-ons there are to the fares, extra for baggage, ticket purchase at airport, etc. They seem to add on more every day. I even heard (really) that some airline was considering pay toilets! Hope that gave you a smile. Good luck.
This is Southwest airlines that runs the add occ. I think you are seeing the online internet ad which takes you no where. Find the sw air closest to you and give them a call.
Whether you're purchasing your tickets ahead of time or at the last minute it turns out that the best time of each week to purchase those plane tickets for the lowest prices is on Tuesday's after 3:00 pm EST and on Wednesdays.
Many travel websites track your activity and see how many times you've been on their page. Clearing your web browser's cookies and cache can help you score cheaper air travel online, making it look like it's your first visit to their site.
How do I find the cheapest way to fly to Tampa, Florida for a week?
If you are not in a rush to fly to Tampa, Flordia you can book in advance. You have to search ahead at the availabilities and see which day would be cheapest to fly out and fly back home.
Booking in advance and choosing to NOT fly on weekends is important.
But did you know that you can at times actually find cheaper flights if you look on the airline homepage instead of going through orbitz or expedia?
