After you've taken the seeds out of your vanilla pod, place your pod in sugar. The vanilla flavor adds a nice touch to coffee, tea, and your baking.

If you buy vanilla beans, to make vanilla extract and have some left over, just put a bean or 2 in a quart jar. Fill the jar with sugar put a lid on it and let sit about a week.
Get a vanilla bean. Slice it lengthwise twice so you have four very skinny strips of bean. Then cut those beans in half so you now have 8 shorter vanilla beans. Add one piece of the bean to a jug or jar of sugar.
