Freezing Green Beans Using the Instant PotYou don't have to stand over a pot of boiling water to blanch green beans anymore. The Instant Pot makes it easy.

1.Wash beans and look for any blemishes.

2.Then remove tips and sting (if the string type.
break into desireable peices.
3.dip in boiling hot water for a couple minutes Beans will change to a bright green color.
4.Then remove immediately to a pot of ice cold water to cool down .
5.Put in freezer bags and place in freezer.
This is how I have always done it and they have always come out tasting fresh. JAN

How do I freeze fresh green beans?

By Emily P. Cogburn

Clean them and put them in a pot of boiling water for 1-2 minutes - this is blanching - it will seal in their green color. After taking them from pot, put them in a ice water bath. Drain, dry them with paper towels, place them on cookie sheets and freeze.

Then you can pack them in freezer bags in whatever amount you desire. Be sure to mark bags the dates - when ready to use, prepare as you normally would. Delicious with chopped onions and bacon!

I do it the same way by blanching. Only after they dry I toss into the baggies. But I like the idea of freezing them on a baking sheet first.

Drop green beans in boiling water for a 3 minutes. They will turn bright green, the scoop out and put in cold water. Then a couple minutes later, put them in a colander to drain.

Put in Ziploc bags and try to get all the air out/run thru a foodsaver and freeze. Keeps for a year if done with the foodsaver.

No once they have been froze you can't can them they would be way to soft and mushey.
I prefer canned to frozen but if you do not have enough I would freeze them, so they won't go to waste.

I froze green beans one year. During the blanching I added a pinch of baking soda to take out the bitter taste that my mother-in-law told me they would have due to the freezer drying them. I placed them in plastic bags. Come winter, they were bitter and we couldn't eat them. What happened?
