If you need to clean those venetian blinds just take them outside and pull them all the way out and spray clorox clean-up all over them. Wait a few minutes and spray with hose, they come almost new again! Let them outside to dry a little while and then hang them back up. This is super easy!

What is the best way to clean window blinds without spreading dust all over?

There is another Yahoo Group called Flylady.Net They offer these feather dusters that really do a great job as picking up dust and NOT spreading it around.

I take my blinds down two or three times each year and hose them off with 409 cleaner and water. Otherwise, Swiffer dusters work well or else use your vacuum hose attachment.

We have severe dust allergies in our home and these things work well for us.

If you are talking about mini blinds...

I just pull them up tight in the closed position, take them down, and drop them in the tub with a couple of inches of water and enough dish detergent to make the water slightly frothy. Then I release the lock and pull them open under the water and let them soak for about 15 minutes.

To dry them, just lay the blind over the towel bar for an hour or so.

You will have nice clean blinds without any scrubbing or flying dust!

I vacuum the blinds every month or two, using the hose extensions and the soft brush accessory for my vacuum. Just run the brush horizontally across 2 or 3 slats at a time. Do one side of the blind and then the other.

Once a year we take them down, hang them on the clothesline and I wash them with a sponge and soapy water. They drip dry very quickly.

Once or twice a year, I take them to the concrete back
porch, pour Joy on them or any DW Liquid. Spray them
with the hose, and brush the heck out of them with
a broom, do both sides Hang them on the clothes line,
spray the soap off, let them dry and hang them back up.
Works for me. IMA3

I love the Pledge moistened wipes that are disposable. Now I only have to do the wood blinds a few times a year. It seems to make them repel dust for a long time.

I had some really dirty, greasy blinds, that should have been thrown out and replaced, but I took them down to the car wash and spent $1.75 and they look brand new! I suppose a pressure washer would also work. I just held them in one hand and sprayed with the other.

I wipe mine off with baby wipes. It removes any dust build-up and doesn't leave a residue. For an average window it takes around four-five wipes. Try it. It beats the rinsing off method. No water spots or missed spots this way. I usually do a room of three windows in 30 mins(10-12 mins. each). The results are worth the effort and time.

I like the car wash idea. I put mine in the tub, shower on the concrete porch and I end up scrubbing. I think I will take them down to the car wash and look silly cleaning blinds. I could kill two birds with one stone that way. Wash my car/vacuum and clean blinds. That is mighty convenient.

I use dry Swiffer dusters. If the blinds are particularly dirty, any cleaning solution sprayed on the Swiffer dusters works well.

We all agree, the only way to get really dirty mini blinds clean is to; hang them upright (indoors or outside) where they may be thoroughly washed. Seems easy enough, right? Wrong!

The problem is; where and from what is the consumer suppose to hang the mini blind from?

Answer: MiniMaids® durable, suction-mounted brackets set, securely holds fully extended mini blinds against the firm, flat surface of a shower wall or an outside window, allowing the consumer a convenient, hassle-free way to suspend the mini blind in an area where it may be subjected to a thorough cleaning, including the use of detergent and water, without mess.

Suspend suction-cup bracket set and dirty mini blind from a shower wall or an outside window to be thoroughly washed.

Spray with household bathroom cleaner to melt away dirty build-up on blinds (no need to scrub slats clean, allow cleaning agent to do all the work for you.)

Rinse clean. Wipe dry with clean, absorbent cloth or allow to air dry. Now thats easy!

For product availability email: vsp @MiniMaidsUSA.com or write: VSP, LLC, P.O. Box 661, Mediah, IL 60157-0661.

The simplest way to hang blinds over your tub is to get an adjustable, screw type tensioning, shower curtain rod. Buy a new one and use the old one for projects like this. Next, make two individual loops of twine (strong string), each about as big around as a soup can (or as large as you may need for your blinds) and put these onto the rod before installing the rod over the tub. Use your own preference as to how close you may want your blind against the back wall.

Finally, simply lift your blind and place either end of the top, mechanism bar only, into the loops of twine allowing the rest of the blind to hang freely. Wallah ! If you should need any help lifting the blind tell the old man to get off his duff or you'll get Julio, the pool boy to do it for you. Use your own preference as far as cleaning and drying the blind. Use your own preference as far as Julio goes, too.

Just a tip.....let your blind soak in the tub overnight, suspend the blind on the rod in the morning, rinse it off, take your shower, and allow the blind to dry as long as it takes. Personally, I only do one blind per day. Why kill yourself when there's really no need to rush, Ralphy. PS; Just kidding about Julio. Marriage tip: After the old man lifts the blind onto the rod, why not invite him to join you ?
