Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses and sour milk. Mix dry ingredients with part of flour and add to batter. Mix in rest of flour to stiffen. Roll these into golf-ball sized cookies and place on cookie sheet. Flatten slightly, leaving quite thick. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.

Instead of making the same old traditional chocolate chip cookies, I thought I'd try baking some molasses cookies. I've never made them before, so I was a little weary at first because of the name. But boy was I wrong, These cookies are awesome!
Cream sugar and shortening. Add molasses. Then add egg, flour and spices. Mix thoroughly. Make round balls size of hickory nut then roll in sugar.
