Painting Walls to Coordinate With Burgundy Carpet

October 7, 2020

A living room with light colored furniture. What color furniture would go best with this burgandy trim and curtains? I'm also open to different color walls, looking for suggestions. My boyfriend likes a couch set that is dark brown with light brown cushions, would those look okay? If so, what color curtains should I use and should we paint the walls gray or something or leave white? Thank you.

The brown furniture will be your base color, Brown is a neutral color . You can add other colors to this, like lighter colored walls like, cream, tans, white/off white, pastels, and my personal favorite Soft Gray. You can add bright colors for throw pillows if you wish. Or pick a accent color and use throughout the room. Also try putting in brown furniture decor on Pinterest and hundreds of ideas will come up, to help you out!

To match trim and mantel of fire place . Burgundy curtains with cherry wood trimed furniture and coffee table would be absolutely striking !

As a dark color, burgundy can be paired with many colors, including brown furniture. If you go that route, you may want to add a pop of color with pillows or an area rug. Depending on the vibe you want, there are shades of blue that go well with both (like a lighter shade turquoise--which is a classic feel) or shades of green if you want a retro vibe.

Even light gray can work. I would leave the walls as is...the room looks very bright and inviting as it is!! Post back what you decide!

What a cool airy room!
The burgundy trim is actually minor and your walls really work well as they are because a change in color may make the room appear small and not so open.
Brown and tan seem like a good start (masculine) so you want some brighter colors to lend some femininity to the room.
You have nice walls to add a picture or two or a large mirror.
As to curtains; are you going to need drapes for privacy or just airy curtains?
Shades of blue with even a touch of black might work.

I always suggest that a good way to 'see' your room with different color schemes to to visit Lowe's or Home Depot and show them your pictures as they have an awesome computer program that can put any color in your room as well as place furniture anywhere you wish.

Be sure to have the measurements of the room.

Browns and tans would be a great choice in color for the main base color in your furniture. I would leave the walls the color they are and get a curtain color that would have some color tans and a little burgundy in them to blend in the walls and furniture color. I might add in a few more throw pillows with a little brighter color on them to help blend the colors nicely in the room.

It's a very pretty room. I agree with the brown couch and lighter brown pillows. Try a gold/bronze colored curtain, especially if you can get away with lighter, flowing fabric, not heavy, stiff drapes. I did that in my living room with a brown couch and it ended up looking great.

In this case I think it would also blend with the burgundy wall accents. I also put in an area rug with a design of tan, beige, off white, brown, and dark red which really pulled it all together. Have fun decorating!

It's a pretty room. I like the idea of a brown couch and lighter brown pillows. Try gold/bronze colored curtains. Especially if you can get them in a lighter flowing fabric, not stiff and heavy drapes. I did this with my brown couch and was really pleased how it worked with off white walls. It should also blend well with the burgundy trim. I added an area rug with a pattern using tan, brown, beige, off white, and dark red and it really pulled it all together. Have fun decorating!

Burgundy is really a color that has had its day already. I would paint the wall in a light gray and the trim in crisp white (prime first to cover that burgundy.) To balance the room, I would move the tv, maybe to the long wall opposite the windows, as it's competing with the fireplace as a focal point.

Happy decorating!
