What airlines was running that special? The times I have seen what seemed like a good deal like that ended up being if I was flying in state, say from Jacksonville to Ft Lauderdale, not St Louis to Ft Lauderdale.
Don't know about that airfare, but was once told by a travel agent to go on one of those web-sites that sell discounted airfare after midnight. That's when the airlines release unsold seats and you can get really good prices.
These are usually promotional fares for a limited time and from specific airport to airports. I'm in TN and we get $39 to FL occasionally. My suggestion is that you call the general number for the airport you'll be flying from and ask them for the regional and/or low-cost airlines that fly from that airport. Call those specific airlines and ask for the fares for your destination or ask them what promotional fares they have and how long they will last.
There is a website called travelzoo.com that features weekly low fares, also Budget Travel magazine's website (probably budgetravel.com or budgettravel.com). Be sure to ask what add-ons there are to the fares, extra for baggage, ticket purchase at airport, etc. They seem to add on more every day. I even heard (really) that some airline was considering pay toilets! Hope that gave you a smile. Good luck.
This is Southwest airlines that runs the add occ. I think you are seeing the online internet ad which takes you no where. Find the sw air closest to you and give them a call.
