Remedies for Sweating Feet?

March 11, 2005

Sweating FeetPerhaps someone with some medical knowledge may be able to answer this. My feet have started sweating in the past year irregardless of the temperatures.

I am past 60, post-menapausal and in relatively good health. I have never had this problem before, but now find I have to change socks several times a day. There is no foot odor but my socks, regardless of the weight or style of the socks, are damp.

I do wear only SAS shoes but have several pairs I alternate between. Even when I wear sandals with a pair of socks, the socks get damp. What gives here or more precisely, what am I doing wrong?

You could try putting anti-perspirant on your feet before putting on your socks. Also, put foot powder in your shoes to absorb the moisture.

It sounds like a type of hypohydrosis (or is it hyperhydrosis?)- something like that. From what I've read, it means you sweat alot, whether from hands, armpits, feet, etc.

Try to get a prescription for Drysol.

Have you thought of sprinkling powder or cornstarch in your shoes? Maybe rubbing some on your feet before putting on your socks. My feet sweat when I'm on my feet alot, especially while and after exercising.

You can put newspaper paper in your shoes to absorb some of the moisture.

Back to the original question (which is how I got here in the first place), I have been wearing SAS shoes regularly, except for when I wear sandals, and I experience the same thing. I went searching to see if there were complaints relating to the SAS shoes. Although these shoes are very comfortable, it appears that they do not breathe properly.

I haven't had a problem with sweaty socks and sandals as I don't wear socks with sandals (except during late fall). I am beginning to think that it is just the nature of SAS shoes.

Ditch the cotton socks and get some that "wick" moisture away. Cotton absorbs the moisture and holds it on your feet. Nylon socks (I prefer pantyhose) draw the moisture away from your feet.
I have had sweaty feet all my life (Mom says even as a baby!). I wear sandals until there is snow on the ground and pantyhose only in the winter when I wear loafers that I slip off whenever possible.

I am miserable when I have to wear boots. I buy summer athletic shoes with mesh sides to wear year round and sleep with my feet sticking out of the covers.
BTW, I, too am over 60, post menopausal and a full time teacher (so I spend a lot of time on my feet).

I know this sounds crazy but it works! One hot summer day, I was complaining to my friend's Mom about how sweaty my feet get and she told me to dip my feet in black tea. Now I keep a large covered container in the bathroom, filled with strong tea. When I get out of the shower, I dip each foot, before stepping onto my [dark colored] bathmat, cover the container, then I dry my feet as usual.

Not sure why or how it works but my feet stay dry for hours! How often the tea needs to be replaced depends how hot the weather is, usually every 2 to 4 days. Also, I like using lipton's cold brew ice tea bags. The tea bags are larger and you don't have to boil the water. Hope it helps!

My 10-year-old daughter complains that her feet sweating. Yes, it's summer, but she says that they are sweaty in sandles too. Do you have any solutions - preferably not using over the counter products. I try to stay away from chemicals. I know I've read about soaking feet in tea (?) but I'm not trying to get rid of smell as much as the sweat.

Thanks.

Glad to see someone who avoids chemicals especially around kids! Baking soda sprinkled in her shoes will help with absorbing the sweat and I've heard that wiping her feet with rubbing alcohol before she puts socks on will help too. I would also make sure she's wearing only cotton socks (my feet sweat like crazy when I wear anything but cotton).

My other concern is that excessive sweating *could* be a symptom of something more serious like a thyroid problem, maybe run it past her doctor just for peace of mind. She's also starting to enter those lovely pre-puebencent years so the sweaty feet could just be part of all of that too!

Good luck to you both!

If the baking soda doesn't work try powdered alum from the spice section of your grocery store - just be sure and wash your hands after applying or any time your hands come in contact w/the alum - there's absolutely no harm, but if you get alum in your mouth it's like licking deodorant or a biting a ripe persimmon!! Pucker up!!!

I also have the world's sweatiest feet. It may have started in puberty many years ago, but the problem never went away. It seems my feet sweat even more in sandals, so cotton socks are very helpful. Soaking feet daily in a strong epsom salt solution helps. The tea soak helps, but discolors the feet. Also, at least once a week I use 1 capful of bleach to a half gallon of water and soak. My feet sweat so much that any deodorant or antipersperant applied rinses right off. Good luck. It's no fun.

I found a cure, balancing the body's pH. I am a minister and sweaty hands were a nightmare for me. I prayed for a cure and God sent me a natural product that worked in the first week I drank it. Visit my website at www.gohtn.com/marinaskinner. Try Coral Calcium free for 30 days. It worked for me!! Let me know.

Have you try Iontophoresis?

Iontophoresis treatments have been researched and shown to help cure sweaty hand and foot by the International Hyperhidrosis Society, Sweat Solutions and AAFP.

I have a cold sweat problem with mine ever since they were frost bitten. The only thing I can say is wear cotton socks, it allows the air to circulate and stay dryer longer. Also change your socks twice a day if you can.

Try rubbing your feet with Surgical Spirit each evening and then letting them air dry. It worked for my father's very smelly, sweaty feet

The best way i've found for curing stinky and sweaty feet is to put special Zederna insoles made from cedar-wood in your shoes. It works very, very well. In my opinion the best remedy!

June 11, 20090 found this helpful

I bought the Zederna insole. I am very happy with them. My feet don't smell that bad anymore. I now feel a lot better, and my wife wants me to wear them always. During the day my feet would be a very offensive smell, but now everything is okay. It works fine for me.

Maybe the combination with good socks and the insoles are a good way to win the fight against the stinky and sweaty feet. (-:
