How to Pickle Vegetables

Jar of pickled tomatoes.I am always trying to find items in the cabinet that can be used more than once. I was faced with trying to find an item to help me keep my peppers that I was pickling submerged in the solution rather than rising to the top. I came up with the idea of filling a gallon zip lock bag with water and placing it on the top of the peppers. Amazingly, it kept them completely submerged for the 18 hours I needed and I was able to reuse the plastic bag.

When the pickle jar gets empty, don't throw out that pickle juice. Drop carrot sticks or zucchini slices into the juice and let marinade for a few days.
