Use a curtain rod and a couple pieces of fabric to make the most elegant headboard. Headboards can be expensive, and if you try to make your own from wood boards and foaming, it can be a little tough. Mounting a curtain rod over your bed is very easy. You can also change colors whenever you like!

If you, or someone you know, is handy, you can put lattice on either side of your stoop to create a porch. I also added some colorful hanging pots. Now the stoop does not look so plain.
I'm on a very tight budget, but still want my apartment to look nice! Here's one of the simple ways I've "decorated." I bought three bamboo plants (at about $2 each, I think), and then put them in a bright blue vase.
Because cottage style is all about re-cycling and re-purposing what you have, look around your kitchen and in your storage areas for "orphaned" kitchen and house-wares which can be put to use in your sunroom, on your deck or patio.
Take old glass bottles (i.e mayo bottles) and pour water resistant paint into them, put the lid back on and swivel the paint around in the bottle to cover the glass. Leave it to dry and you have colourful and cheap vases! Enamel works well.
On the first floor of my home, I have similar colored curtains at every window, but, each set of curtains has a different texture or design. So, on those days when I am wanting a little change in the way my rooms look, I can just move curtains around.
