I photographed this tiger swallowtail butterfly, as it alighted on brilliant flowers. I asked him to pose for me, and he did!

Spicebush swallowtail, or Papilio troilus, are mostly in the Eastern US, with some venturing to the Midwest area. These large butterflies have black upper wings.

Early morning and the swallowtail had landed on the picotee sky flowers tree blossoms. It is as though the butterfly had posed for the photo, wings up stretched, body showing in the early light.
