Susie, I have been helping my wife deal with gout for some time. We feel it is most certainly food related. We discovered if she drank wine or ate shrimp she broke out with an attack of the gout. Experiment with different foods you probably like in abundance and see if you break out again after eating or drinking your favorites. Best wishes and good luck.

You actually can go on the internet and find a good gout diet. However there are medications that will prevent the attacks. You should see your doctor.

The Rayban bracelet is a wonder at keeping most of my gout away. Occasionally if I eat too much sea food, clams especially, I will get a bout. Not too serious though.

Have him eat cherries. Fresh or canned, even pie cherries. If he can eat 1/2 cup of cherries twice a day for a week and it helps, great. Hold off the Meds if you can. Good luck. GG Vi

I believe gout is a build up of acid often caused by eating rich food and drinking alcohol-Cut out the fats, creams, red meats and junk food for a while (if you eat these things!) and see how you go. You can always reintroduce these things in moderation when you're feeling better. Good luck - gout is very painful!

My husband gets the same thing. eating cruciferous vegetables - cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc. - can bring on an episode.

Eating meat and shellfish will do the same thing. the pain is caused by uric acid having built up in the blood.

No junk food, heavy food, sausages, no chicken, fowl.

Fruits like blueberries, pomegranates, cherries will help him. you can also go to the health food store and buy the concentrated form of these fruits in tablet or capsul form.

The juice of these fruits will help too. Drink lots of water to flush the blood.

I also give him an herb called devil's claw. However, you must remember that herbs are medicine, just like antibiotics. herbs can interfere with other drugs so be careful.

His foot should be elevated. He should not eat any meat or dairy while he's ill, just fresh fruit and vegetables, juices and fruits mentioned above.

Every hour he should drink a glass of lukewarm water with the juice of one fresh lemon in it. this will help him detox his liver. he will likely develop loose stools and this is good because it's a sign that his body is eliminating poisons.

Every hour he should have one glass of lukewarm water with one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it. this will de-acidify the blood and neutralize it. you can also buy apple cider vinegar tablets or capsules and take them instead, BUT he must take the tablets/capsules with a glass of lukewarm water.

I would NOT add any sodas to the juices as mentioned below.

Do NOT ever mix fruits and vegetables together at one meal. Your blood will acidify and not become neutralized.

I hope your husband feels better and may try these solutions. good luck.
