If you have a difficult time getting your dog to take pills of any kind, the easiest way I have found is to stick the pill or pills in a large marshmallow. They greedily take the marshmallow where they might not a pill.
Giving your cat liquid medication, while definitely not fun for the kitty, can be done reasonably well using a dropper or syringe from the vet.
