roses growing on a trellis wallIf your deck or balcony is not very private, you can create a living privacy wall with a trellis and a fast growing vine such as climbing spinach, squash, or gourds. To create a private retreat or relaxing oasis in your yard, a pergola, arbors or a few trellises can be used as supports for climbing vines that will provide living walls.

Long planters or containers in various shapes can be used for the vines in areas where planting them in the ground is not an option. This same idea works to enclose a patio. You have the additional option of using ornamental grasses to increase the level of privacy around a patio.
