I sorted my children's closets. I had four boxes for sorting things: toss, donate, keep, and a box for things that belong somewhere else in the house.
When hanging my clothes in my closet on the wire rack, instead of hanging them on the bottom bar where the clothes get all scrunched up together, I hang them on the top bar, placing one hanger in the space between each of the cross bars.
Since my closet is full of sizes 10 to 18 in pants I had the hardest time going through my closet looking for the correct size. I have now separated them into sizes and use size tags for me to find the size I need with no hassle.
I got a free display rack with a bunch of poles that I disassembled. I hung them flat but 2 inches from the wall out and added a ledge to support the weight and a bar across the top to prevent them from falling forward.
Keep your closet organized by getting rid of clothing that you no longer wear. A good way to find out what you wear is to take all the hangers and turn them around so they are facing the wrong way.
Hanging pants up with clothespins becomes a problem with the female shaping of pants so I began hanging mine upside down by the bottom hem. It even creates more room on the rod because the bulk is at the bottom.
I buy children's plastic coat hangers to hang my t-shirts and camisoles. The indentations on the hanger keep the straps from falling off the hanger. I no longer get flustered when the tees fall off the hangers.
When I organize my closet, I put all my slacks in one area on hangers, my blouses in one area on hangers, my sweaters all in one area on hangers, my purses in one area on hangers.
It's the time of year where back to school, moving to a new apartment, or just making good use of your space is at it all time high. There are good tips to make more room, sort out the old, and shop your closet, hopefully saving you time and money.
I find that room in my closet is essential to lessening my stress. If you are the same, I have a cool idea I came up with that you might like.
We have a small house with very little storage room. One of the best things we ever did was to invest in an inexpensive closet organizer. It has helped us make room for several items that we had no idea where they would go.
I have discovered that taking out the rods and shelf and any other parts of a normal closet and changing the inside will give you much more storage space. You might even be able to get rid of one dresser.
My friend is expecting her first baby in September, she lives with her parents in a very small 2 bedroom house. She's trying to look for ideas on how to organize her closet (which is super small) so she can fit his clothes along with her's in there. Does anyone have any tips or ideas that are cheap?

Congratulations on her baby! We had a baby last year, and we live in a one bedroom apartment so space is pretty tight. We don't even have a closet here! What I did was consolidate hubby's clothes and mine to clear out a couple drawers for the baby, one for her clothes and one for bedding. It's a good excuse to have a clear out and decide what clothes you wear and which ones you can give away.
I bought some of those small plastic chests of drawers to store her diapers and odds and ends. Under-bed storage also comes in handy. Fortunately baby clothes are small and don't take up a lot of space. One of those hanging sweater organizers for the closet would be a handy way to organize things, too.
Hang clothes backwards and rehang them forward after each use. After one year, everything still backwards can be donated.
An easy way to free up drawer space and keep your sweaters nice shape is to buy a hanging organizer, I just bought a Martha Stewart one at Kmart for $9...
When I had my daughter, we had all these dresses with matching bloomers. I added clear sandwich bags to all of the hangers for the dresses and put the bloomers in them so they were always together and easy to find.
All the hooks of my hangers start out the same way; however, when I've worn something once and it is good enough for a second wear before washing, I put it back on the hanger but the hook faces the opposite way.
