Buying on eBay

Buying on eBay, Photo of eBay's home page. What appears to be a bargain, may not be. I love eBay, in fact, I sell and buy on eBay. I have learned the hard way to not get into bidding wars. Do your research on the item or items you are interested in, decide ahead of time what you are willing to bid and stick with that amount. A couple times I have paid more then I wanted, just because I got caught up in the last minute bidding.

Now, I do my homework on what a fair price is for the item I want and put my best bid in and leave it alone. If I do not win that item, there will eventually be another listed and I can try again.

If you are selling items, always give a detailed description of your item, charge fair shipping and answer all questions sent to you before the auction ends. Take good quality pictures of your item and start at a low opening bid with no reserve.

Have fun, and happy bidding.

Ebay is a great place to purchase gifts inexpensively. For quite some time, I have shopped Ebay for "new with tag" items that are priced $0.25 to a $5 with free shipping for gifts. Many times, I have paid $1.75 (with free shipping) for new scarves for family members and friends.

I have yet to be disappointed with the quality! I make sure to only purchase items from sellers with a reputable reputation that accept returns. It can be a bit time consuming to search for these items but once you find that great deal, it's all worth it in the end!

I've seen a lot of complaints about items purchased on eBay smelling bad. It happened to me too. So now, before bidding, I contact the seller and ask, "Does this item have any odors of tobacco products, pets, or cooking on it?".

Be sure to check the person's rating. EBay gets feedback from their buyers on each vendor and it goes to a percentage. Vendors can be barred by having a low percentage of happy customers.

When entering an auction always have your bid end with some cents. If you want to bid 100 dollars make it 100.03 or something...

I have two teenagers. I buy all of their clothing off of Ebay for less than I would pay in stores. Some are brand new, some are gently used.

I found "the" Sunbeam electric blanket replacement cord I wanted on eBay yesterday, and thought I purchased it, but it didn't go through. Today I can't find the replacement cord I wanted on eBay. What happened?

You probably didn't finish the transaction. It happens if you are not familiar with ebay. You can look for the kind of cord you needed in the search field, and it will show you that the one you wanted is sold. You might even see your bid in the "my ebay" section under that same listing.

When you "Buy it Now", no one else can buy it unless you don't finish the transaction. The seller doesn't know you tried, only seeing the person who actually finished.
Sometimes, you think something is done, but you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit continue, or submit purchase or something similar. I hope this helps.
PS: If you get on the companies website, assuming they are still in business, you will no doubt find the cord you need. Good luck!!

Tips For Ebay Auctions. Here's an EBay tip - Watch the end of the sale. Just heard from an antique dealer that sometimes the bids go way up at the end.

Also, check on currency and shipping rates to factor in the cost.
