Christmas Charities for Children

December 22, 2019

Its 3 days before Christmas and I have no money to get my son anything for Christmas. I have reached out to many of the agencies who offer Christmas donations to low income families, but I am past the application deadline or they simply do not have anymore toys. Does anyone know where else I can apply this late? We don't even have a tree. I lost my job last month and had to put my last on $900 rent. I homeschool my 7 year old son and despite all the loss we've endured (car, job, home, my 16 year old son) he's still managed to get all As and Bs and 2 awards. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Merry Christmas to you All.

You have my prayers for solutions. This close to the holiday is going to be a challenge, but not impossible. Contact your local Salvation Army or Catholic Charities or if you belong to a religious organization, contact the leader and see if they have anything you can participate in...like a holiday dinner or other services.

You could also ask for help if you have a Facebook page.

Post back with updates!

There still might be a way to get your son a few things for Christmas. I would go to your local fire department or even police department. I have seen how they take kids and buy them a few gifts for the holidays.

There are also a few orginations that serve Christmas dinner to families like yours. I would check with your local churches in your area or even the Salvation Army.

I believe it is too late to place ads but its cannot hurt so if doing so I would place an ad in Nextdoor as these are people near by where you live and may be more likely to try to help - but do it today.

If you can visit any church in your area that would be good but most likely their offices will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday so that may be too late also - look up churches in your zip code area and call them first as some may be open til noon on Tuesday.

Google fire station with your zip and go to their facility as they may be associated with Toys for Tots. Always have a current picture of your son available for reference.

Try going to some of your local thrift stores as they may at least let you pick out one item even if it is clothing.
Salvation Army may still give you a voucher if you go early on Tuesday.

Hope something wonderful happens.

How do I find a place that donate's to women with kids? I just got fired from my job due to me having to take off due to my son becoming ill. I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old.

I am trying to find place that help with toys or energy assistance. I'm a single mom with no help and am not sure how I'm going to make ends meet or keep a roof over my heads.

My family recently had to vacate their home because the city of Morgantown deemed it unfit to live in causing us to spend what would've been xmas money on emergency moving. With that being said we no longer have the funds to buy our daughters anything for xmas.

I'm a hard working mom with 2 teenage daughters who are great in school. This really put a damper on my holidays. If you know of anyone that can be of assistance please contact me. Thank you have a blessed day.

Are there any churches or places giving Christmas gifts for children? I have two stepchildren, an 8 year old daughter and 12 year old son.

Their father and I have been having financial issues. We've yet to get any gifts. Any ideas?

Check in your area for places they collect toys and food for the needy this time of year. Go to one of the centers and talk with them about getting your name put on the list. This could include the Salvation Army, Churches, local fire departments, Veterans administrations. There are several places this time of the year that have toy and food drives. I'd try and find one that is in your area.

You can also do like some other parent's have done in the past during a year with no money. They basically concentrate on getting the food for Christmas dinner and making a certificate for their children. The certificate gives the kids an idea when you can afford to buy them something. Just add a date to this certificate and say when you can take them shopping to buy them each one gift.

It's too late to sign up for the angel tree. Any suggestions for other legitimate charities? I've never done this before, but I'm extremely broke this season and don't want my two sons to have to go without.

They are 11 and 13 years old. Any suggestions?

Hi,
I would call around to local churches and ask them if they might "adopt" your children which means the church provides them with gifts. Bless you and have a peaceful Christmas.

I'm a teacher. My school always collects for students in need. Each teacher who chooses to get involved gets one child. That child has a wish list.

We also give gift cards to food stores and Target, so the students can get warm clothing for winter. Check with your school.

I need help with Christmas for my daughter who is 14. I have been everywhere and called places and can't find help because there is an age limit or it's too late to find sign up.

It is not like I planed this to happen. Please does anyone know where I can find help?

I think you can have a nice Christmas for her if you get creative. First, what can you make that would be meaningful? There are a ton of resources online for super cute, stylish presents you can make for under five dollars. Also don't be afraid to step in the thrift stores. When I went away for college this year, I didn't have a lot of money to buy new clothes so I visited my local Goodwill for the first time.

Not as bad as you think. I found a couple like-new peices for very little money. They also had gently used household items, purses, and belts.

Unfortunately, it is now too late for most Holiday programs as they have their program targets identified months ago. You can contact local churches and other local outlets for possible help.
