Remedies for Damaged Hair

January 17, 2008

A woman looking at the ends of her damaged hair.Fabulous hair repair tip! Vitamin E capsules are a CHEAP and fantastic remedy for dry hair, split ends and damaged hair. Take about 20 or so capsules (depending on damage...mine was severe!) and cut them open with a pair of small scissors. Take the gel and put on the ends of your damaged hair. It is tedious and time consuming but it really works!

Continue until all ends are covered. Work the gel in well and leave on your hair for at least an hour. I left mine on 2 hours while I cleaned house. Then shampoo and style as usual. You won't believe the difference! Try it!

How can I get my natural hair back after rebonding? I want to know how can I look good even if I'm still letting my natural hair grow back. I have black wavy hair that was rebonded and I want to get my natural hair back without any ugliness to show. You know, the baby hairs are standing up like antennae. Haha.

You have three choices:
1. Home box dyes, etc., can't give you what you want if your hair is already damaged.
2. Let your hair grow without any alterations and tough it out.

3. See a hair stylist to provide an opinion on what can be done.

Your best bet is to have a stylist work with your hair for a good result. But remember, your hair is already damaged so any stylist can only try to help from there.

I moved recently and now have well water. I have brown hair and blonde highlights. After using the well water my hair is such a bad rusty color where the highlights were. Can you please tell me if there is anything I can do to get my hair color back? Thank you much!

yes, i am a stylist and our salon has a treatment called Malibu. If you go to your salon she should know how to handle the removal of the coloration without damage or redoing anything chemically.

our salon charges around ten bucks and a tip if they please.

You probably should invest in a water softener. I'm assuming you have "hard" water. You could consult your beautician, they should have some tips for you too.

We had that. Everyone in this neighborhood has had well water for many many years. The only way to stop it from turning your sinks tub toilet and your hair red is to get a water softener. Meanwhile - since i know it costed us alot...... we only drank bottled water and cooked with it...

we used 'The Works' to get the rust off the sinks toilet n tub.... and as for your hair well i hope a beautician can help but if not go to a friend neighbor or family members house to wash your hair. Good luck hun - been there done that and i know its awful. - smells too! lol

Before washing your hair, mix about two to three tablespoons of baking powder with water to dissolve and pour over your hair, then wash with a purple shampoo for blonde hair, leaving on for three to five minutes, do not rinse the baking soda out before putting the shampoo on your hair. My stylist told me to do this, I am on well water, too, and I do this.

Yes, you NEED a water conditioner...it will save you not only money on all the hair treatments, but if you don't...the water will ruin your plumbing, your pipes your toilet tanks, etc. Believe me...it will be WAY worth the money you need to spend. You either spend it now, or lots more in bits and pieces over the ensuring years.

My hairdresser recommends Malibu2000 products. (One of the stylists at the salon had the same problem. www.malibu2000.com/.../ ) She gave me some samples the last time I was at the salon and it really seemed to work well.

Judy,
You mentioned using baking powder but then also mentioned baking soda. They are two different products. I figure it was just a slip of your typing fingers...........happens to me too.........but I just wondered which one to use.

Thanks!

I live in a city (So. Portland, Maine) and my shower nozzle is red stained now. It was new 2 years ago. I also keep getting a reddish color to my hair about a month after I color it. Does this mean the city has hard water? If so, how would I soften the water? It is a townhouse development and we have no access to the basement. Thanks for any advice on this

I have been working on the same hair problems with some success. You definitely need a water softener --- a Malibu gel treatment before you color your hair -- as clarifying shampoo to use once a week to help keep the build up of minerals down. You can also put a filter on your shower head - they have them at Menard's that screw directly into your shower for around $16 and you change the filter 1x per year.

Finally if you are still having hair problems you need to rinse with bottled or distilled water. It is a huge pain!

I went to las vegas and after washing my hair I noticed I had more body and volume to my straight color treated hair. How can I get the results without converting to a water softner tank? Is there products I can rinse with to get the same effect?

I have a problem. 3 weeks ago, I had my hair rebounded. I was expecting a good result, but it was not the same as what I expected. My hair got damaged to the tips and I cut the brittle parts. After 2 weeks it's just the same. My hair turned dry and looks lifeless. But some parts are still good. I saw some burnt hair above my ears and it's difficult for me to cut it. Remedy for Burnt Brittle Hair - dry tips

Now my hair is short so I'm afraid that dryness and damage might spread because some are still healthy (hopefully not). I really don't know what to do. Currently I'm using coconut oil and keratin treatment. I just want to know the best treatment for this kind of damage. I really need your help now. It's a very serious problem since my hair is very important for me.

Thank you so much.

To remedy any dryness in the hair from straightening, perming, coloring, bleaching, etc. try mixing your favorite hair conditioner with a teaspoon of olive oil or jojoba oil. Apply this to your hair while dry, cover with a shower cap and sleep on it.

This is a page about using coconut oil for damaged hair. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer for hair, skin, and nails. A small amount goes a long way.

A jar of coconut oil next to a cracked coconut.

I am on a lot of medication for SLE (systemic lupus ereth.), fibromyalgia, as well as multiple problems caused from both. I have colored my hair for years, only store bought. I have used one brand for years. I am 60 years old and never had a problem. My hair has gotten so dry, especially the hair that is underneath (it is thick), that it causes it to stick out.

The length is just below the neck line, about an inch. The damaged hair has a wave to it also, the rest is perfectly straight. I use a blow dryer on low to straighten out the damaged hair and was using a straightening iron.

Nothing I have used, over-the-counter, and different shampoos and conditioners has helped. My doctor said I am on most of these medications for life. I had oily hair when I was younger. Please, do you have an inexpensive idea that will help me out? I don't have a lot of things about myself I like, but I really loved my hair and was proud of it. Even though I live in Florida, I am not out in direct sun as it can cause the lupus to increase activity. Also, with mayonnaise, do you wet your hair first? Thank you so much for your help! If you need more information you can contact me through this site.

I went to the hair dresser for the first time. My hair was really long and thick and my mom didn't want to do it anymore because it would take 2 hours.

The first time i went to the hair dresser, I got it straightened for school. And it looked a little shorter, but you couldn't really tell. The 2nd time I went to a different place, and they put some kind of chemicals in it because my hair was getting shorter throughout the year.

Now my hair is up to my shoulders and keeps breaking off. But I'm afraid to go back to the hair dresser. But I really want my hair to grow back. Please help.

I was in the foster care system and my foster mom put a perm in my hair when I was two. Growing up it's been really tough, my hair is so brittle and hard. Now what do I do? I'm 17 now and even though this happened when I was 2 there is no telling what else she did. How do I manage my hair by myself? What kinds of oil or grease will work? Please help me.
