Staking a Tree

Woman planting young tree.Save your old ruined bike inner tubes. The make great tree holders when staking a tree, and require no cutting. Simply take the tube, fold it in half so that the 2 looped ends are together. Place around the tree and then drive your stake through the loops and your set. The wide rubber won't damage the tree like a rope would.

While cutting back some lilac bushes today, I discovered a nice little oak sapling growing between them. It's growing at kind of a wonky angle. I don't want to dig it up and transplant it this late in the year (October). How can I stabilize it for the winter?

I would move it in the spring. It can't stay where it is, as the lilacs require full sun, and the tree would shade them.
