This is a recipe that I got from my mother over 40 years ago. She called them drop sugar cookies, so I renamed them this year. These are crispy cookies that melt in your mouth. Almost every time I take them to a potluck party, I am asked for the recipe.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Cream together shortening, sugar, and brown sugar. Mix in egg, then buttermilk and vanilla.

Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and nutmeg in mixing bowl. Cut in butter to make crumbly, like pie crust. Beat eggs; add sugar, milk and vanilla.
Combine butter, sweetener and eggs, beating until fluffy. Soak raisins in enough boiling water to cover. In a separate bowl, sift flour and soda. Add dates and walnuts to the flour. Then add drained raisins, reserving the liquid.
