Remedies for Bad Breath

April 30, 2012

Photo of woman covering her mouth with her turtle nick.Dip your toothbrush in peroxide and brush to kill germs that cause bad breath. You may also gargle with peroxide but have a glass of water ready as you will want to gargle with that also. It really works. Some might have to do two to three days.

Lots of bad breath is from the stomach. Many people with stomach problems have bad breath. But it can also be caused by something you eat. I'd recommend chewing on parsley as a cure for bad breath. It's the chlorophyll that does the trick. Wheat grass also works. Health Food stores sell a chlorophyll gum & other products that can greatly help. If it's your stomach (bad digestion) I recommend you eat papaya enzyme chewable tablets before or right after your meal to help digest your food more efficiently.

It's obvious that if you stay away from garlic & onion & brush your teeth & tongue & floss right after meals that this will also help! My dentist recommends using the original Amber colored Listerine to kill germs that can cause bad breath. (The other flavors have a sweetener added) You can also chew or suck on whole cloves or make your own cinnamon toothpicks.

Cinnamon Toothpicks: Make them by soaking 50 or so wooden tooth picks in a tiny glass vile with several drops of cinnamon oil for one week. (Use caution & do NOT touch your skin or face with the cinnamon oil or it will cause pain, swelling, redness & burns!) Cinnamon or Cassia oil can be purchased at most health food stores or on line. After the week is up, remove the toothpicks from the oil & drain them on paper towel on a plate & store them in several tiny zip-lock baggies with 5 or 10 in each bag.

Carefully wrap this paper towel up in a plastic bag before you throw it away. Keep these toothpicks & this strong cinnamon oil away from children & pets! Cinnamon is a VERY strong essential oil! Wash your hands carefully after you touch the toothpicks & keep your hands away from your eyes! To make your toothpicks more mellow, dilute your cinnamon oil in half with olive oil.

Most times it's from things rotting in the stomach, slow digestion. Check out hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

Hello, I am a dental hygienist of 25 yrs.

The hydrogen peroxide is a good idea. Listerine isn't. Teeth cleaning definately a good idea. So are tongue scrapers (get one with a thin edge--not blunt), abstaining from coffee, eating breakfast, and watching your onion/garlic intake. Oral irrigators are ok, but the best on the market is called Hydrofloss as it changes the polarity of water so the plaque doesn't stick to your teeth. Brushing 3 times a day with a Sonicare is also going to help. Manual brushing won't involve as many brush strokes as an electric brush--but not just any and especially not the round headed spinning brushes. I see worst results from them. Also, do not "Brush" with a sonicare, Rest it on 2 teeth at a time, pointint it into the gums, for a full 5 seconds.

Spend 2 min's on the bottom teeth, and 2 mins on the top. Do not neglect to brush the inside of your cheeks and all the hard tissue (gums) beyond the teeth. Plaque sticks to everything. It doesn't discriminate. :-D I have used a dye to show patients where it resides and they are shocked to see how much is in their mouth...not just on their teeth. One or two swipes with a manual brush will do. Also do the inside of the floor of your mouth on the gums where your tongue rests, the underside of your tongue, and the top of your tongue after using the tongue scraper.

If your problem is caused by sinus issues, use a Neti Pot www.webmd.com/.../neti-pots.

There is an excellent article posted on msn.com. It was called: Do you Smell badly?

health.msn.com/.../slideshow.aspx?cp-documentid=100241164...

I hope this helps.

Buy a good tooth brush and some tooth paste and brush your teeth three times a day and brush your tongue to this is where the bacteria builds up is on your tongue. After doing this if you still have a problem consult a doctor bad breath can also be a sign of an infection somewhere in your body.

What must I do to get rid of my bad breath?

I switched from an expensive "professional" over-the-counter mouthwash to baking soda and water. Don't forget to gargle as well to neutralize the bad odor in your mouth.

First: Have your dentist check for tooth decay, gum disease, and coating of the tongue (there are tongue scrapers which can surprisingly eliminate some bad breath.) Secondly, get a check for stomach (digestive etc.) problems. Thirdly, are your lungs healthy?

If affirmative on all these, maybe your body needs some detoxifying (cleansing of your liver and gallbladder, which can be done following a good herbal program). Toxins in our bodies can definitely cause bad breath. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Make sure you are drinking enough water. A dry mouth can be a cause of bad breath. Also eat more fruits and vegetables. A cleaner colon makes for cleaner breath.

I had a terrible problem with this. I drink coffee constantly, am a heavy smoker, suffer from post-nasal drip, and have digestive problems. Any one of these cause bad breath. I have finally found products that completely solved my problem. However, I can't find them in stores. I only found one or two of their products in one store in my area, but not what I really needed. I have to order them online.

Here is their website.... www.therabreath.com/index.asp

They have lozenges and gum, that instantly freshen your breath. They also have toothpaste and rinses, of course, that are wonderful. Believe me, they are worth the price. Between the coffee and smoking, I always had a brown tongue; but since using the lozenges, gum, toothpaste and rinse, it is a healthy pink color, and no bad breath!

Bad breath is often a sign of gum disease.....which can lead to infections in your gums and your teeth fall out.

You should visit your dentist for regular check ups. Floss daily and buy a Water Pik to blast away food debris stuck between your teeth. And make sure to brush your tongue, all the way as far back as you can reach. All these things will make your mouth cleaner and your breath fresher!
