Where do you get a 'white eraser sponge'? And what is it?

Magic Eraser is a product made by the same company as Mr. Clean. You get it in the cleaning aisle where floor cleaners and sink cleaners are sold, in a grocery store, or place like Walmart. There are also generic brands that are sold in places like dollar stores. It is a smooth white sponge that is slightly abrasive. It seems very soft, but it cleans things like soap scum extremely well or marks on painted walls. It disintegrates fairly quickly with use.
I was told by my home health nurse to be very careful with these sponges. She treated a toddler who had gotten hold of one. Toddler had washed themselves with the sponge & ended up with 2nd degree burns.
Has anyone tried to use a Magic Eraser without getting it wet? What did you use it on? What were the results?
Thanks.
i believe the chemistry behind the Magic Eraser is the reason it works better if slightly wet. That said, it can be used dry for the same types of cleaning but does a better job if is wet.
Procter & Gamble says the key to the Magic Erasers stain-fighting properties is in its water-activated microscrubbers. But theres nothing water-activated about itthe eraser can be used dry as well as wet, with little difference in the result. Water likely makes it easier for dirt to cling to the eraser, thoughthe same way you might wet a paper towel before wiping down a wall or table.

Here is a link with lots of suggestion (and cautions) on using the magic eraser.

The directions on the Magic Eraser website specifically say to use water:

You just get all the ink off clean with water.. Not using it smudges it around a bit, even if you can't totally see it
What is a Magic Eraser that is recommended for cleaning glass dishes? I live in Scotland.
Thanks.
Hi,
They are melamine sponges with a cleaning agent which is inside them. When you use them, they become smaller and smaller until they disappear. If you want to make your own, you can.
You can buy melamine sponges on ebay and spray them or sprinkle them with baking soda and water to clean dishes the same way as Magic Erasers will clean dishes.
Blessings,
Robyn
Magic Eraser is a sponge with formaldehyde and other cleaning agents. It does a great job. However, dont use it on painted surfaces.
Just a clarification. There is no additional cleaning agent in the Magic Eraser products, they are made entirely out of a melamine copolymer. It is similar to using very fine grit sandpaper. As you use it to scrub, the melamine wears down just like a regular sponge.
People have concerns about them because of the chemical name of the copolymer: formaldehyde-melamine-sodium bisulfite. Bits of the sponge could be left behind on the surface you are cleaning but would be removed by a final clean wipe, just like cleaning up after Comet, Bon Ami or any cleaner. It's certainly a lot less toxic than either of those other abrasive cleaners.
Here is a Wikipedia article about them.

No home should be without Magic Eraser! Especially if there are children or a man or women living there. This little gem easily takes care of many otherwise almost impossible to remove spots/stains that occur during just ordinary living.
Here is a site that has some suggestions on how to use this magic gem:

You may have this one in your country: www.sainsburys.co.uk/
You got lots of info on them.
You can buy them on Amazon or eBay.
For example, this eBay seller (I do not know the person) sells them worldwide and has decent feedback:

Hope you like them. Be very wary of what you use them on, though. I would never use them on painted surfaces or anything wood or laminate or anything that scratches easily. Glass seems to be the best thing to clean with one.
