Getting nicotine off wicker.

Step 1
Take outside and mix 1/2 vinegar and water with tsp of dawn dish soap.

Step 2
Spray the whole piece of wicker and scrub with a sponge.

Step 3
Then rinse with a hose if you can.

Step 4
Repeat and dry well with a towel.

There are several different types of furniture that is called "wicker" so it would be best to know what type you have before you start.

  • Wicker furniture can be made of natural wicker and painted (or left natural) or it can be made of plastic (and still be called wicker).
  • If this is newly acquired used furniture you may be able to find a material tag on the underside of the bed frame or maybe inside one of the dresser drawers.

  • Nicotine stains and odors are nasty and not always easy to remove.
  • It would be best if you could do this cleaning outside but it could be done inside (maybe a garage or carport?).
  • I always like using diluted ammonia as there is no rinsing and it will remove these stains and odors BUT ammonia can only be used in a well ventilated area and it is best to wear gloves and try to not breath the fumes.
  • Use about 2-3 tablespoons of ammonia to a gallon of water. You can increase the ammonia if it does not completely clean the first time. Sponge on and use a soft brush or toothbrush to clean the crevices. Do not soak - only wipe.
  • Use old towels/cloths to dry as much as possible and do not leave in strong sunlight.
  • Every spot has to be cleaned or the odor will remain (bed-frame and inside/under drawers).
