Repairing a George Foreman Grill?

July 14, 2020

Hello all! Hope you are healthy and safe! I have a George Foreman grill, GRP4842. When I plug it in, it lights up. But pressing power does nothing. Zip, zilch, nada. Have tried pressing the other buttons as well. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Your first step is to check your power outlet and make sure the grill power cord is plugged in tightly and that it is attached to the grill. Push on this and make sure that you have it pushed in all the way. A lot of time if you have other appliances on the same outlet this will not allow the grill to turn on or even power up. Try removing all other appliances from the outlet and check again. You can try to plug in a lamp to the same outlet as the grill. Turn on the lamp and now plug in the grill. See if the lamp dims when you try and power on the grill. If this happen then the outlet is not getting enough power to run this grill correctly. If this is not happening it can be the plug for the grill or even the grill itself that has the issue. If this is the case you can try to buy a new power cord for the grill or take the grill to a repair shop and have it tested.

You may have to take it apart to replace the button but you should have an experienced person help with this.
If you have a Sears service center in your area (and they are still open) I would suggest you take it to their service department and ask for help. Ask if they can tell you what part to buy and do not leave it to be serviced if they do not help you.

Sometimes they fix things on the spot and only charge a small fee.
A phone call will probably not help you.

You may be able to get help from the George Foreman site:

I am having a problem with my George Foreman Grill GRP4842RB. When I try to turn on the grill it automatically shuts off, especially if I put it on sears (500F). Can it be repaired?

You might have a short in it. My experience has been that it is cheaper to get another one at a thrift store or yard sale than to fix that one.

In order to fix or repair this, you'll need the replacement parts. This sounds like an electrical short in your unit. I'm not sure if they do or don't sell the replacement units. Your best bet is to visit the website for George Foreman and check out what type of replacement parts they have.

This is a great company and they are so willing to help anyone out. You can even contact their customer service to ask them to help you locate the right part to fix your grill. They will answer you almost immediately and they are always happy to help out.

My children bought us a large George Foreman grill for Christmas a few years ago and I just tried it out. Low and behold the bottom of the grill does not heat up. It barely gets warm. What can I do to resolve this problem?

Are you talking about the electric indoor/outdoor kettle type grill on a stand? That's what I have and the bottom of the grill is not supposed to get hot and only the grill plate itself is supposed to get hot. That's why it's safe to use indoors and outdoors.

Even the lid doesn't get so hot that it will burn you like regular outdoor grills would if you accidently touch it. This also gives you the option to remove the kettle from the stand and use the kettle on a countertop or tabletop inside or outside if you want to.

I have a Lean Mean Grilling Machine. I've had it for a few years. I don't use it much, but the non-stick has been coming of for some time now and food has been sticking as of late. In addition the lower plate no longer heats up. I like the machine, but must repair it. If I remember correctly these machines had a lifetime warranty. Am I correct? If not where do I get parts for it?

My George Foreman manual states it has a two-year warranty. For parts you can call 1-800-738-0245.
To keep the food from sticking while it's cooking, try spraying it with a cooking spray such as Pam before placing the food in it.

I am on my 3rd George Foreman Grill. I still have the first one but the teflon coating came off. I simply line the grill with foil, top and bottom, spray the foil with Pam and grill away. Works fine (got that idea on this website!) The second grill lost a heating unit on one side.

Too difficult for me to replace so I pitched it. Someone picked it up at the curb. The 3rd one is relatively new and working fine but it doesn't have the timer option so I only use it occasionally. Good luck.

I found the best way to get immediate attention, and if the company is on Facebook, write to them on Facebook. It worked for me! How quickly I got a message from someone at the company, and the problem was resolved. Be truthful in your statement, but make it strong! It works!

I see tons of George Forman grills every time I go the the Goodwill. Might be a great way to get replacements.

We have a George Foreman grill that has just decided to stop working. I've tried to change the fuse, but am unable to as the plug can't be opened. I've unscrewed the screws, but the plug can't be separated.

I want to check the fuse before I consider buying another one.

Can anyone advise?

I haven't researched this, but I think that if a non-stick surface is peeling, it is time to toss the machine. You may be able to replace the grills, but you would have to check with the manufacturer.

If the grill looks fine, and just seems to have lost its non-stick properties, it maybe possible to do something with it. I am not sure what sort of non-stick surface we are talking about.
