It's a great idea, but I recently read an article about research that was done on the germs that collect on bar soap. I still use bar soap in my shower, and will use your idea. However, by the sinks, where multiple people wash their hands, I like an expensive, liquid pump soap. I also have a roll of paper towels on the counter for drying their hands, instead of using the same hand towel. It may sound a little picky, but after being a food safety instructor, I became more aware of how germs are transmitted. Children and the elderly seem to be affected the most by micro-organisms.

Your recipe sounds delicious. As a former Home Economics teacher, and concerned about heart disease being the #1 killer in the U.S., I have a healthy tip. Instead of using the butter, you can put 2 cups of milk in a quart jar, add 4 tablespoons of plain flour, cover and shake well. This thickens soups and also is the base for a healthy gravy, too.

Sorry, but baking soda does not really clean anything that is dirty. Sure, it may "clean" something that's already clean, but it will not clean a dirty shower or bath tub.

Our $1,500 mattress sagged in the middle after the warranty expired. We folded a foam mattress pad in half and put it UNDER the mattress where it sagged. Then, I spread an old mattress pad over the folded foam mattress pad, so that it would be fairly smooth and not lumpy. It filled in the sag and it feels like a new mattress. They aren't making mattresses to last. Sad!

Sorry about your trouble. Make that cleaning company come back and do the job right! I hope you haven't paid them. If you have to use Kilz, I read that the oil based Kilz is very dangerous to breathe. We've had good results with the Kilz water based product, and then painted over it with a good quality paint. Be sure to buy paint with the primer already mixed in with the paint. They sell this now. Use a 3/4 inch paint roller because it will apply more paint. You may have to use 2 coats of paint. Be sure to get good ventilation when you paint. Good luck!

Cover your plate with aluminum foil. That plate is too pretty to get hot glue on it and then scrape it off with a razor blade! That plate would be beautiful hung on the wall with a plate hanger.

What wonderful ideas! So practical and thrifty, handy and sanitary, too. I don't like all that plastic in the kitchen, either. My only added comment, as a retired Home Economics Professor, would be to say, add a little bleach (1/4 to 1/3 cup), to the washing machine and wash them in hot water and detergent. The FDA (Food & Drug Admin.) did research on the germ content of fabrics washed in hot water & detergent and dried in the dryer. They were amazed at the number of germs that remained. So, that's why bleach, detergent and hot water are recommended for washing fabrics, especially any fabric that comes into contact with food.

Please don't have an aggressive dog around your child! Let a loving, single adult adopt him and save your child's life. The poor kid has already been attacked at age 2. Your child is more important than a dog.

The USDA and the Centers for Disease Control warn not to put your mouth on a raw egg. Raw eggs contain salmonella. Michaels sells blown and clean raw eggs, a dozen in a package.

This is wonderful information, not only to save money, but to make your recipes more healthy. As a retired Home Ec. teacher, I know all too well that there is a Type 2 diabetes epidemic for children in the U.S. This is caused by eating too much sugar, candy, sodas and processed foods like chips, crackers and white flour. Many children are also suffering from overweight, which leads to many health problems. Cut back on the sugar, fats, whole fat dairy and substitute whole wheat flour for at least half of the white flour. Encourage your children to play outside and be active.

How do you keep the fruit clean? Flies are attracted to raw fruit. What about tying a piece of clean plastic wrap around each piece of fruit?

Jello is just sugar. As a retired nutrition professor, I know there is great concern about children (and adults) eating too much sugar. Type 2 diabetes is epidemic with children now, and it's caused by eating sugar and processed foods like chips, crackers, and other empty calories. These convert to sugar in the blood stream. Google it in if you want to learn more about it.

What a wonderful comment! Adding these 'extra' healthy foods to recipes is a great way to get more vitamins in your meals.

Cynthia, google in Smiley's Yarns. They claim to be the cheapest source of yarn. I've ordered yarn from them several times and always got wonderful service. Since you have to buy a certain amount of yarn to get free shipping, you can go in with several friends to order and shipping is free.

What a smart idea and so glad it was successful. Recent research reported that dogs are comforted more by another dog's presence in thunder storms than they were by their humans. I'm so glad my husband suggested we get 2 puppies from the same litter. They are best friends, and such a comfort to each other. Usually they sleep through storms.

First, before you bring your adopted shelter animal home, please, please have an appointment scheduled with your vet. Have your vet check the animal for worms, parasites, and other health problems. Immediately get all the recommended vaccinations before bringing it into your home. I learned this lesson the hard and expensive way.
