Wildlife: Birds Nest BasketHere is a photo of a grapevine basket that I had placed in our garage. I was going to use it for something else. What a surprise to find that a mother bird decided to use it to build her nest!

Garden: Bird BathIt's a thrill to have more than 2 birds at our birdbath at the same time. Today I saw 4 Robins and grabbed the camera. In a matter of minutes the birdbath was overcome with all these birds!

Wildlife: Japanese Snow MonkeysMy mother photographed these monkeys while visiting the Jigokudani Monkey Park in Japan. Jigokoku means "hell" and Jigokudani translates to "Hell's Valley", named due to the bubbling boiling water these monkeys so comfortably lounge in.

After years of going to Assateague Island National Park hoping to photograph the wild ponies on the beach. I was so thrilled when I saw this pony "calling" for the others to line up.

Blue JayAfter a recent heavy snow, food was scarce and our feeder was the only game in town. The mornings are filled with blue jays, up to nine at a time sharing the feeder!

March of the Penguins (Hokkaido, Japan)Here are some photos from the Asahiyama Zoo in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan. They hold this famous Penguin Walk annually from December through March. A walkway is roped off for the penguins to roam around the park, they seemed to do it so happily!

 

In Memory Of Jewel (Mountain Lion)I took these photos of Jewel in 1995 for a wildlife magazine photo shoot in the mountains of Montana. Jewel was a real sweetheart. She died 3 years ago.

Wildlife: Butterfly KissesWhile visiting a butterfly garden last summer with my granddaughter, I stressed the importance of not touching the butterflies. I guess I didn't say anything about giving them a kiss though.

 

Wildlife: Lone BirdI was trying to take a picture of this tree in front of my house filled with birds. Right when I was taking the shot, the neighborhood ice cream truck came by with its blasting song, scaring all the birds away except this one!

Peacock (Louisville, KY)We went to visit my brother in Kentucky and we decided to go to the zoo. It was a gorgeous day, and this little guy decided he wanted to show off. I snapped several photos of him, but this was the best.

Wildlife: Backyard Baby OwlWe saw this baby owl in perched in a tree right outside our window in our backyard. It was one of 3 baby owls. My two little boys, 1 and 5 years old, were amazed by them.

Wildlife: Urban Fawn (Brookfield, WI)This fawn is a few days old. It was born in our yard, here it is resting under a tree near our house. The Mom is nowhere to be seen. It was found by my wife while picking garlic mustard in our yard.

Birdbath VisitorsWe have many little visitors to our birdbath each day. Usually the squirrels only like the bird food, but Texas summers are unforgiving even for the wildlife. We would all like some relief, send rain and a nice cool breeze, please.

HummingbirdThis lovely Anna's Hummingbird came in under the patio roof to feed on a lavender blossom. He stayed a brief time, hovering ever so carefully, to approach the lavender blossom. Lavender blossoms are very popular with hummingbirds.

This butterfly is a Spicebush Swallowtail, which is just one among many that show up to share their beauty!

Wildlife: RaccoonThis is not a pet, just a wandering visitor. I had made this little "Town Hall" for the squirrels to come and eat peanuts from, and one morning there was a raccoon up there helping himself to the buffet.

Backyard HummingbirdsWe call these two, the Bibs sisters, because they both have like a red bib on their necks, actually their throats, and it's adorable how they'll sit at a feeder together, and in this picture they'll even drink together from the same hanging feeder. They're female Anna's.

Backyard Visitor (Fawn)This adorable baby showed up in our yard last week. Our backyard borders the gamelands, and we have seen adult deer walk down our driveway to graze in the fields across the street. We figured momma deer left the baby in our care, so she could feed and run errands.
