Wildlife: Yellow BirdI am known for feeding the birds in the neighborhood. This feeder sits just off the porch and I watch these birds every evening. Gives me ample opportunities to photograph them.

Wildlife: Imperial MothThis imperial moth appeared on my back porch one morning and perched itself against a wooden post. The markings on this moth are that of a fall leaf with the coloration of dark yellows and browns. It was a fascinating creature to see.

Wildlife: Buffalo (Custer State Park, South Dakota)While traveling in South Dakota, we were in Custer State Park and saw this buffalo trying to scratch an itch on a sign. The actual writing on the sign makes it all pretty funny.

Eastern BluebirdWhile visiting the Antietum Battlefield I was watching a bird in a harvested cornfield and was able to capture it in a picture. To my surprise it was an Eastern Bluebird. I think it turned out to be a very nice scene.

Wildlife: What Is It?Most of my adult life I was in the rat race. Now that I am retired it gives me great joy to slow down and look at things closely and to really appreciate the beauty of nature even in my own backyard.

Wildlife: Eastern Box TurtleAfter a long rain this little fellow showed up in one of our garden beds. There is one place that we do not have the small fence around our garden and that has to be the only way we can figure that he came in.

Wildlife: BeetleThe other day I ignored this bug, but my husband retrieved it. My oldest son loves bugs. He decided to pet the bug and hold it for a little while and I had to get several pictures of him with it.

Wildlife: Broken Wing ButterflyThis little fellow decided to do his metamorphosis on the handle to my electric fence. I have been watching the cocoon waiting for the butterfly. Unfortunately a big storm blew in the same day he came out of his cocoon. He was blown into the horse water trough.

Baby Horned Toad

Baby Horned ToadMy husband was outside watering when he saw the dirt move. As he looked closer he saw that it wasn't dirt at all. It was this cute baby horned toad. He brought it inside to show to the family.

Pekin DucksThis photo is a shot of my Pekin Ducks as they swim in the pond full of reflections of the fall colored leaves. They are so pretty gliding across the pond and coming to my side of the pond to get something to eat. Soon they won't be able to go on a frozen pond.

 

Wildlife: Prince Charming?After the flooding the east coast had with Nicole, this frog jumped onto my front porch and allowed us to pick him up and photograph him. He was so calm, and I could only wonder if hidden somewhere behind those eyes was my Prince Charming.

Peek-a-Boo Frog In BromeliadWhen I was bringing my plants inside due to a approaching tropical storm, I saw this little guy hanging out in my bromeliad plant! So I grabbed my camera and luckily he waited!

MooseAs the sun appeared and the frost glittered, this bull-moose wandered out in front of my son. He sat quietly and took a few frame-worthy photos before the bull ventured off into the trees.

Wildlife: Deer (Milton, FL)We recently moved into a campground in Milton, FL and our neighbors feed the deer daily in their yard. All the campers line up to watch and some of them have never seen a deer this close. It's as much fun to watch the spectators as it is the deer!

Wildlife: SquirrelsI was having a yard sale, and this squirrel kept coming right up to my table and boxes of items. It had no fear, and I guess it appointed itself my mascot for the afternoon.

Wildlife: Japanese Snow MonkeysMy mother photographed these monkeys while visiting the Jigokudani Monkey Park in Japan. Jigokoku means "hell" and Jigokudani translates to "Hell's Valley", named due to the bubbling boiling water these monkeys so comfortably lounge in.

Wildlife: Red Cardinals in the SnowRed cardinals are so pretty to look at in the snow in the winter. They decorate many calendars and Christmas cards, which is understandable. I hang my feeder close to the kitchen window, which gives me a meal time view of them.

 

Wildlife: CricketI was working in my garden one day watering plants and cleaning off leaves that were scattered all over my picnic table. While I cleaned it off I noticed a little visitor, a cricket, that was watching me.

After years of going to Assateague Island National Park hoping to photograph the wild ponies on the beach. I was so thrilled when I saw this pony "calling" for the others to line up.

Wildlife: Hungry BirdsWe just could not stand by, and let the birds go with out their daily bird food. So my husband put on a hat, jacket and boots, and got the snow shovel, and made a path to the bird feeder.

Elk (Estes Park, CO)This may be a common sight to some, but we were ecstatic to see this guy up close on a September trip to Estes Park, Colorado. He was huge, beautiful, and made my heart skip a beat. It was, for me, a summation of the glory of nature.

 

Osprey

Wildlife: OspreyThis Osprey just didn't like how windy it was so decided to wait out the wind, by sitting on my condo railing. He could care less if I came out to see him or not. When I tried to make him fly off. All he did was turn from facing the building to looking away!

Wildlife: Deer At Bird FeedersAlmost every evening these little ladies come to our bird feeders. That's right, deer eating bird seed! In fact, we had to put the feeders up pretty high in the tree, or the deer knock all the seed out. Now they just come and eat what the birds throw on the ground.

Bald Eagle (Kansas)Yesterday, as the snow was falling, my daughter captured this picture of a bald eagle out in our pastures. We live close to a lake and sometimes have counted up to 16 eagles at one time! They are beautiful and big.

Blue JayAfter a recent heavy snow, food was scarce and our feeder was the only game in town. The mornings are filled with blue jays, up to nine at a time sharing the feeder!

Elk (Jackson Hole, WY)This is a beautiful bull elk near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There is a wonderful place called The National Elk Refuge, where the elk come out of the mountains to eat and bed down for the winter.

 

Wildlife: CamelsOn my trip to Egypt, I had the chance to see and ride a camel. I named him Smiles.

Sandhill CranesThese three gorgeous Sandhill Cranes decided to have breakfast in my front yard today. I must have a lot of bugs in my grass because they stayed for almost an hour.

 

Wildlife: HeronIn Florida, we are blessed with much wildlife, including many different species of heron. One morning when I was leaving for work, I found this guy perched on the roof of the car.

 

Wildlife: MuleI waited all day for my mule to smile at me, then I discovered he need his teeth cleaned!

 

DragonfliesI came home and as I was walking down the driveway, I could see this huge dragonfly near the front door. Luckily, I had my camera with me and I got few shots of it before it flew away.

March of the Penguins (Hokkaido, Japan)Here are some photos from the Asahiyama Zoo in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan. They hold this famous Penguin Walk annually from December through March. A walkway is roped off for the penguins to roam around the park, they seemed to do it so happily!

GrosbeakThis is a photo of a Grosbeak drinking from a fountain. It was taken this winter at my sister Holly's house in Island Pond, Vermont, while I was visiting her.

 

Wildlife: Water BirdsThe coolest critters are found near water, be it ocean, lake or pond. These guys seemed to enjoy having their pictures taken as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Lizard (Tenerife, Scotland)I love how they blend into their surroundings. I find that now some of them take on their own personalities. I have a different species that lives in my hut and a much smaller one, again a different kind again, that likes to eat bits of my gluten free chocolate chip cookies.

 

Wildlife: Winter VisitorsThese pictures were taken from my kitchen window recently during an ice and snow covered time. The creatures shown certainly appreciated the food provided for them. The ice is shown in the picture with the cardinal.

Moose (Yellowstone National Park, WY)This was a time when I was really scared, and had nowhere to run. This was taken outside the east gate of Yellowstone National Park. I had decided to go for a short walk, and encountered a moose coming out of the brush.

Scenery: Whale Watching (San Ignacio Lagoon,...I just got back from a whale watching trip to San Ignacio Lagoon in Baja California. We were surrounded by whales. Here is one of the photos I took. Great trip.

Wildlife: CrabWe went to Florida last week and I got a picture of a small crab. I used my zoom lens. Looks like he was dancing and smiling at me.

Wildlife: Fox (Pahaska Teepee Lodge, WY)I worked at Pahaska Teepee Lodge, 60 miles from Cody, WY. To my surprise, I saw this fox on the roof of the lodge, probably smelling the food from the exhaust fan.

DucksI took a walk around the lake, and came across momma and poppa duck. They were just chillin' on the boat dock.

 

Wildlife: Hayden Run Wolf (Yellowstone)To see this in Yellowstone was so amazing to me. Two wolves from the Hayden Run wolf pack feeding off a bison remains. I am sure it was the alpha male and female.

Wildlife: Butterfly KissesWhile visiting a butterfly garden last summer with my granddaughter, I stressed the importance of not touching the butterflies. I guess I didn't say anything about giving them a kiss though.

Garden: Black Swallowtail ButterflyThis beautiful black swallowtail butterfly was stuck on my screen this morning, when I got up and opened the blinds. I went outside and took his picture before rescuing him. Swallowtails are attracted to phlox, milkweed and Queen Anne's lace.

Bird Convention (Snowy Egrets and Canadian...These snowy egrets and Canadian geese seemed to be having a conference, as they were in the same place an hour later when I drove back by. The geese were letting themselves be heard while swimming back and forth in front of the Egrets.

Wildlife: Baby BunniesWhat happens when your husband waits too long to start mowing the grass in the spring? Bunnies, of course! Luckily I found these little fellows before I started up the mower, leaving that corner alone until the babies were grown.

 

Wildlife: Lone BirdI was trying to take a picture of this tree in front of my house filled with birds. Right when I was taking the shot, the neighborhood ice cream truck came by with its blasting song, scaring all the birds away except this one!

Wildlife: The Chickadees and the RaccoonMe and my friends were flying to our favorite feeding spot when we were accosted by a four legged masked bandit, we settled in a tree just watching, couldn't believe our eyes!

 

Wildlife: Goose Prints (Long Island, NY)I just love the beach. I love the sights and sounds of the ocean, and even more so I love venturing on the beach and exploring the images that are left behind in the sand.

Peacock (Louisville, KY)We went to visit my brother in Kentucky and we decided to go to the zoo. It was a gorgeous day, and this little guy decided he wanted to show off. I snapped several photos of him, but this was the best.

 

Wildlife: TurtleHere is a lonesome turtle on a shallow dead log; hugging to the branch as if it were his own life line.

Wildlife: Rhinoceros (Rietvlei Nature Reserve,...We went on a guided hike at the Rietvlei Nature Reserve, and were very fortunate to get within a few metres of one of nature's most amazing creatures. The day after the hike, two of the rhinos at the same reserve were killed by poachers.

HummingbirdA hummingbird looking for the perfect blossom! Those little critters are so dang fast. It's hard to get a picture of them, and forget about getting them to smile! I tried to find out what kind it is. There are so many kinds of hummingbirds listed. It's unbelievable!
