I washed down the soffits and removed all trace of the mud they had put there, but they kept on trying to come back. The soffit is thirty feet from the ground so I taped an Old Spice stick deodorant to the end of my extension pole and applied a coat of deodorant to the window ledges and soffits. In less than two minutes the swallows were gone. Not sure how long it will last, but it sure worked well. All for the price of a stick deodorant. The only downside is the smell of Old Spice on my deck now, but it is better than the mess the birds were creating.
