Little Black Bugs in the KitchenI kept sweeping up little black bugs along one baseboard where I keep my cat's dish and water. I changed the location where I kept his place mat because they were in his water. I sprayed the area with ant spray and put down moth balls, which seemed to work. After a while they were back.
Keeping Bugs Out of Sealed ContainersWhen storing goods, like flour or sugar, take a solution of peppermint oil and water and wipe around the top where the lid goes. It will keep the bugs away from trying to get in whatever you are storing. Do this whenever you open the container. I use a few drops of peppermint oil and water and vinager.
Cedar Shavings for Pantry PestsWhile it won't do anything about any little hitchhikers already in your food, bugs absolutely hate cedar, so sprinkling a few shavings or hanging up a little bag of it in your pantry may discourage anything investigating the place from hanging around.
Store Dry Goods in Refrigerator or FreezerStore your legumes, flour, oatmeal and nuts in the fridge or freezer. They won't get weevils or insects, and will last longer.
Mice Don't Like Potpourri Toilet...I have accidently stumbled on a way to keep those 4 legged kritters out from under your cupboards. We live in the country and sometimes have a problem with mice getting into the house.
Preventing Pantry PestsClean up spills in your cabinet quickly. Store food in air tight plastic, glass or metal containers. Clean food storage areas at least once a year and inspect packaging for leaks.
Freezing the Vermin (Pantry Pests)I hate bugs so I use my freezer to keep away the pantry pests. I mark the date and then freeze all of the cereal, flour, pasta, rice, etc that comes in the house for at least 3 days.
Keep Bugs out of FlourUse a bay leaf in your flour canister to keep bugs out all year. I make a lot of bread and use a lot of flour. This works. The more flour the more bay leaves.
