Does anyone know of an inexpensive genealogy website? Preferably one that you have tried and found useful.

Thanks.

If you join ebay's Genealogy Corner, you can get all the free genealogy website links imagineable and free additional help. I am one of the moderators and it's chuck full of interesting material you might enjoy going through. Free lookups are also done when you run into those brick walls from time to time.

I haven't found eBay's Genealogy Corner to be real helpful. I use familysearch.org a lot, then I have a paid subscription to Ancestry.com. None of the paid sites are cheap. Until three years ago I used free sites, exclusively. I was lucky when I first started my genealogy project, and I can't remember what site I used by I typed in one of my great-grandfather's name and came up with two-or three other people that working on that family and it included their email addresses.

I contacted these people and explained who I was and received all kinds of information about one side of my mother's family. One third cousin that I never knew existed sent me about 500 pages of information, dating back to the 1700s in Denmark. Talk to as many of your ancestors as you can and ask for information. Even some of your younger relatives might have information that can help you.

I know some people last name Tolley > they live in Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. I believe they are from the UK. Check the website www.411.ca for their phone number. Good luck

You might try genealogy websites like http://www.ancestor.com . They offer one week's free subscription.

You can request that other Tolleys who are searching can contact you through the website.

Several years ago I was working on my family tree and I discovered the US Census records. It was free. Now I have no idea how to find it. Every place online leads me to places like Ancestry.com, Family Tree.com or other websites that charge a fee. Can you give me a link to the site? Thanks.

Try familysearch.org. It is free and I don't know how what they have for free census records. I pay for Ancestry.com, and use that and familysearch.org, because I am really working on my genealogy project.

Your local library may have a subscription for Ancestry.com and you can use it for free. Otherwise, you will have to visit your state archives, but that may not always be convenient.

I do genealogical research on my family as well, but cannot afford to keep an ongoing paid subscription with Ancestry, especially when I keep hitting brick walls.
