Stale cake makes great trifle. Just slice up your cake, pile on a dish, and leave it to soak for a couple of hours in either some kind of sweet alcohol like cointreau, sweet sherry, or port OR fruit juice OR strong coffee with sugar.
Prepare cake mix and pudding mix according to package directions. When cool, break 1/2 the cake into a large punch bowl.
