Gargling with 8 oz. of warm water to which 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of salt has been added is a classic remedy for a sore throat. It is also very effective at removing the flu virus from the back of your throat where it often multiplies and spreads. Gargle with salt water to sooth a sore throat or if you think you may have a flu virus.

This remedy was given to me by an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. To get immediate relief of a sore throat, eat Fritos Corn chips and eat popsicles.

You cannot gargle enough to reach all the way down the throat that is sore.

I will start from beginning, I woke from sleep on Sunday and I felt as if I was having mucus in my throat. My ears were clogged on the third day. My nose is even clogged, but my ears were more clogged. Now it's the 5 day and I can feel that the right side of my throat is painful and that my right ear is even clogged.

I have gargled, but that's not working. I can feel popping sounds and as I swallow a drink, eat, or talk it is hurting. One more thing, today, the 5th day, I saw a sore on my upper lip that's on the left side. It is not very big, it's very small.

I would use an antihistamine to unclog your ears. Use just enough to unclog them, not too much or it will dry out your mucous membranes.

For your nose, use nasal saline, at the drugstore or Walmart. It is cheap and you can use the generic. Use it until it goes all the way through. It will go in your throat and taste salty. Keep clearing your nose with it.

For your throat, use a numbing throat spray such as generic Chloraseptic. Or, use numbing lozenges such as generic Cepacol.

If you get a chill, your body temperature is too high. Take a fever reducer such as generic Tylenol or ibuprofen. Try not to take these unless you have a chill, since it could make you sick to your stomach.

One more thing I forgot to put in my answer below: Don't blow your nose until you've used the saline to get the stuff in your nose really fluid and watery. Blowing a clogged nose causes your sinus lining to swell up and this will clog it even more. So no hard blowing, just gentle blowing, and if nothing comes out you need more saline.

I'd say see a Doctor soon. Don't risk ending up with burst eardrums and hearing loss, it's never worth it.

Visit www.webmd.com first. This site is great but it can only post in the order it's received so you can't get information as fast. I hope you feel better soon.

Heat up 1 cup of Coca Cola in a coffee cup. Squeeze in half a lemon, then drink it. Soothes your sore throat.

For a great sore throat remedy that tastes better than old fashioned remedies, take one of your most used cough drops or lozenges and a cup of orange juice or tea (you can sweeten the tea if desired).

My throat is irritated due to a cold, yet because I take prescription meds I didn't want to take more meds if I could help it.

I am an advocate of home remedies whenever appropriate, and in particular am on the lookout for recipes that treat common cold symptoms as the seasons start to change.

For years, all I have used to cure a sore throat is to mix 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar in a tepid glass of water, then gargle with it. Do this once an hour until the pain is gone. It doesn't take long.

A sore throat is an "inflammatory state of the throat". To calm it down, you must not put on any scarf, turtle neck, or any other warm device which increase the heat.

Instead, wrap around the neck a towel dipped into cold water.
