A sore throat is an "inflammatory state of the throat". To calm it down, you must not put on any scarf, turtle neck, or any other warm device which increase the heat. Instead, wrap around the neck a towel dipped into cold water.
Very soothing when you have a cold or sore throat.
The one sore throat remedy my family swears by is to drink 1 cup of hot cocoa with 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper sprinkled on top. Works great for us! You can repeat every two or three hours, if needed. Hope it helps.
Use 1 tablespoon vinegar to 8 oz. glass of warm water for a sore throat. Gargle every hour and swallow after gargling, with 2 mouthfuls.
For a great sore throat remedy that tastes better than old fashioned remedies, take one of your most used cough drops or lozenges and a cup of orange juice or tea (you can sweeten the tea if desired).
This remedy was given to me by an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. To get immediate relief of a sore throat, eat Fritos Corn chips and eat popsicles.
For years, all I have used to cure a sore throat is to mix 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar in a tepid glass of water, then gargle with it. Do this once an hour until the pain is gone. It doesn't take long.
If you have a sore throat try eating something with garlic and it could help give you relief very quickly. Garlic has anti-viral and anti-fungal properties to it so it really does help. By Robin
I am an advocate of home remedies whenever appropriate, and in particular am on the lookout for recipes that treat common cold symptoms as the seasons start to change.
Heat up 1 cup of Coca Cola in a coffee cup. Squeeze in half a lemon, then drink it. Soothes your sore throat.
Take several cloves of fresh garlic. Place the garlic in a blender with the juice of half a lemon. Blend until smooth. Add 1 cup raw honey and blend again.
My throat is irritated due to a cold, yet because I take prescription meds I didn't want to take more meds if I could help it.

My husband's dangly thing in the back of this throat is longer than normal and starting to curl up it seems like. It just started bothering him about 4 days ago, his throat is really hurting him, does the dangly thing have anything to do with it? If it does, what should i do for him? Could it be strep throat?
He should go and see a doctor for advice and medication if needed.
Strep is nothing to fool around with and can cause secondary infections. Please go have it checked out.

usually when you get an infection the epigladus gets bigger because it trying to absorb the infection, normally when it is strep you have pocket or pockets on the back , to the side,of the throat. If he has had this for 3 or 4 days already and the epigladus has gotten larger, I would go to the doctor, chances are he needs an antibiotic to clear up the infection..Some other ways of knowing if it is an infection, usually the person will run a fever, BUT..
The dangly thing is called the epiglotis, it can become inflamed from eating certain foods. However, strep can only be determined by having a throat culture done. If the culture comes back positive for strep, then the Dr. will prescribe a course of antibiotics. He must go to a Dr. ! Do not try and self diagnose as strep is nothing to mess around with and if left untreated can ultimately affect the heart and kidneys. Not to mention the fact that he is meanwhile passing the germ along to you and others. Also, if you have children, you might want to have them checked out too, as many times children can be carriers of the strep germ but not show any symptoms.

I will start from beginning, I woke from sleep on Sunday and I felt as if I was having mucus in my throat. My ears were clogged on the third day. My nose is even clogged, but my ears were more clogged. Now it's the 5 day and I can feel that the right side of my throat is painful and that my right ear is even clogged.
I have gargled, but that's not working. I can feel popping sounds and as I swallow a drink, eat, or talk it is hurting. One more thing, today, the 5th day, I saw a sore on my upper lip that's on the left side. It is not very big, it's very small.Combine herbs, lemon, and honey to make this sore throat soothing tea.
