Cold and flu season is upon us so here are some good old fashioned home remedy standbys for sore throats. ;-)

Heat up 1 cup of Coca Cola in a coffee cup. Squeeze in half a lemon, then drink it. Soothes your sore throat.
Take several cloves of fresh garlic. Place the garlic in a blender with the juice of half a lemon. Blend until smooth. Add 1 cup raw honey and blend again.

Gargling with 8 oz. of warm water to which 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of salt has been added is a classic remedy for a sore throat. It is also very effective at removing the flu virus from the back of your throat where it often multiplies and spreads. Gargle with salt water to sooth a sore throat or if you think you may have a flu virus.
My throat is irritated due to a cold, yet because I take prescription meds I didn't want to take more meds if I could help it.

For years, all I have used to cure a sore throat is to mix 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar in a tepid glass of water, then gargle with it. Do this once an hour until the pain is gone. It doesn't take long.

I am an advocate of home remedies whenever appropriate, and in particular am on the lookout for recipes that treat common cold symptoms as the seasons start to change.
For a great sore throat remedy that tastes better than old fashioned remedies, take one of your most used cough drops or lozenges and a cup of orange juice or tea (you can sweeten the tea if desired).
The one sore throat remedy my family swears by is to drink 1 cup of hot cocoa with 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper sprinkled on top. Works great for us! You can repeat every two or three hours, if needed. Hope it helps.
