Cut off the elastic tops of your tights and stockings before throwing them away. I use the stocking tops for hair bands and scrunchies. I use the elastic from the waistband of tights to secure my rubbish bag around the bin and also to keep the cat litter bag in place. I have used the legs from old tights to secure a parcel. Nice and strong!

This page contains the following solutions.
Need a (rubber) band, a head band, gift wrap or small tourniquet in a hurry? Use an old nylon stocking that has been cut in strips to securely tie, organize or wrap small things together.
I found a hole in my hold-up stockings and nearly binned them. Then I decided to use it as an "Alice" band to keep my hair out of my eyes when doing housework or when washing my face.
Use an old knee-hi stocking to bring a quick polish to gloss-finished shoes. Just hold on to each end of the knee-hi and buff away!
For crochet projects that need filling: Give old knee-highs a new life. Use them as filling material.
Using Elastic from Pantyhose. Another great use for pantyhose! Save the waistband to use in place of elastic when making a skirt for yourself...
This is a page about making a recycled stocking scrubby. Panty hose have many more uses, even after they develop a run or get torn or snagged.
