I'm on 5 different meds for different reasons and 3 of the meds cause dry mouth. I find that sucking on hard candies during the day really helps. If your worried about calories you can use the sugar free ones.

When I ran, I would put a small pebble inside my cheek to keep my mouth moist. I imagine a small button would do as well and it would be more hygienic.

Dry mouth plauges me as well. I am currently using two OTC remedies that work very well. Biotene is a mouthwash containg bio-active enzymes that really help before bedtime. While I'm on the go I use a little spritzer called Oasis. While both of these are available at the pharmacy you may have to ask for them.

They are not very common - they are effective. Sorry, I wish I knew of a home made remedy that would work. Give Biotene and Oasis a try. I believe you'll be pleased with the results, plus, nothing else in your mouth - let me know?

I had such horrible dry mouth from medications I am on I almost lost my teeth. First there is miracle mouthwash a prescription made of benedrl, malanta and lidocain, a pill called evxo(? not sure on the spelling of all this) both of these are used in the treatment of Sjogrens syndrome. I have also stated using a enamel building toothpaste, and a fluoride rinse as the dry mouth is damaging to your teeth

The medication is called Evoxac. It is a prescription and is usually taken 2-3 times per day. Hope that helps!

I am pregnant for the first time and am experiencing dry mouth (and just general funkiness in the mouth). I normally drink a LOT of water and this has never been a problem for me.

The best thing I have found is to chew some peppermint gum. Chewing gum keeps that saliva flowing. Good luck!

I ,also have been searching for a remedy for dry mouth. I'm just going to try to make a homemade spray. I've gathered together the ingredients that I think will help me. They are non-alcohol fluoride rinse (Reach), Aloe vera juice, glycerine and hyluronic acid. I'm going to try it and I'll try to get back to you all.

Slippery elm, huh? I will l look into that. Most of my saliva glands got fried due to radiation to the neck. I have tried everything. I like the mouth spray called" Rain" but have been making my own for years. I use distilled water, vegetable glycerine, dried Aloe Vera powder, xylitol and spearmint food flavoring.

This goes with me everywhere. People are always telling me to suck on candy. I tell them to put a piece of candy in their hand and see how fast it dissolves. LOL that is what my mouth is like.

Could you please provide specifics regarding the recipe? Interested in trying this for my wife. Her saliva brands were also damaged by radiation. Thanks!

Would you be so kind as to give the increments or quantities of each ingredient in the spray? Many thanks for sharing.

I do voice over work and take medication that dries my mouth out a lot. I came up with a mouth spray based on what I know is natural, inexpensive and works. I got 16 ounces of food grade vegetable glycerin for $6, 2.5 lbs of Xylitol for $12, 16 oz of Grape Seed Oil for $10, some Slippery Elm extract for a few bucks, and some spearmint essential oil for a few more bucks on Amazon. All of these are things that help to moisturize the mouth and strengthen teeth. (Xylitol is something like 10x more effective at protecting and repairing tooth enamel than fluoride, which is highly toxic.) I have not made this mix before, but have made similar things, so I know that I'll want to put the spearmint, slippery elm, and grape seed oil in the glycerin, dissolve the Xylitol in some filtered water, and then mix them. The glycerin acts as an emulsifier that allows the oils to mix with the water. After I came up with this combo, I searched online for tips on the ratios, and discovered that Biotene is just glycerin and Xylitol with a bunch of other yuck in it. This mixture will taste better and be far more effective due to the slippery elm and grape seed oil which Biotene lacks and are both excellent for the mouth and throat.

The spearmint is for flavor and is preferable to peppermint because it doesn't have menthol and one other chemical that can be drying or irritating, but still gives it a fresh, minty taste. I will be experimenting with ratios, but I'm thinking about 2 oz glycerin to 8 oz water, 8-10 drops of slippery elm, 1 tbsp Xylitol, 1-2 drops of spearmint, and a quarter to half teaspoon of grape seed oil will be a good start. Then I will adjust for taste/effectiveness. This will make a far superior product to Biotene at a fraction of the price. Just be sure to refrigerate the grape seed oil, as a 16 oz. bottle will last years if used in this amount, but it will go rancid at room temperature. Once it's in the glycerin, I think it will be okay. I would just keep a small spray bottle of the mixture handy and store the rest under refrigeration. I also think I might substitute aloe vera juice (pure - no thickeners) for the water for a super hydrator! That's something else that you can get in large quantities, but will want to freeze what you don't use. A gallon costs about 7 dollars.

Does anyone know a homemade solution to help with dry mouth? I am using Biotene Oral Balance which is OK, but only lasts a little while.
