Homemade crepes filled with chestnut puree, a bit of strawberry jam and real whipping cream, drizzled with maple syrup. Decadent and Delicious !! Hard boiled eggs on the side to sop up the gooey maple syrup left on the plate is wonderful too.

We didn't have a lot of money when I was a kid but Christmas and Easter mornings were special days. I'm a senior now, and do this for my grandkids. A family tradition lives on.

To keep things easier on the morning, I often make the crepes the day before and in the morning, just sprinkle them with water before re-heating them in the oven. Re-heating in the microwave makes the crepes too floppy.

I suggest "Holiday Morning French Toast." It's a sweet, fruity, syrupy make-ahead breakfast casserole. You make it the night before and put it in the oven the next morning. I can't seem to find my recipe right now, but there are lots of recipes out there. I like the one made with dried cranberries and apples. Just try doing an internet search for "Holiday Morning French Toast" if you're interested.

Another idea would be making the cinnamon pull-apart bread (often called monkey bread) made with canned biscuits. I make these extra good by rolling a piece of cream cheese up inside and also using walnuts or pecans. It would be a simple and tasty sweet thing for Christmas breakfast!

Hi, I make Texas French toast, but give it a nice seasoning of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and brown sugar to the egg mixture, whip it up good, let the bread soak really good before putting it in the hot pan. Turn heat down to medium, the sugar can make it burn.

I heat the maple sugar with butter and peppermint cany crushed up. It's always been a great hit! With any leftover egg mixture, pour it over the uncooked bread, use a wide spatula to turn the bread over. "Enjoy"

Maple No Bake Cookies

1/2 cup Butter
2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown Sugar
1/2 cup Milk
1 cup Marshmallow crème
1/2 cup Peanut butter
1 tablespoon Maple flavoring

3 cup Rolled oats

Mix the butter, granulated sugar, brown Sugar and milk; boil for two minutes
Remove from the heat and stir in the remaining ingredients
Drop onto waxed paper or tray using spoonfuls
Set in the refrigerator for one hour until hardened

Deeli's Chocolate Chip Meringue Cookies

2 large egg whites (room temp)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

In mixing bowl, beat egg whites on high speed with an electric mixer until they hold stiff peaks. Slowly beat in sugar. Reduce speed to low and evenly dispense vanilla. Gently fold in chocolate chips.

Drop mixture by rounded teaspoonfuls onto parchment lines baking sheets. Bake at 250 degrees for one hour. Turn off oven, leaving cookies in oven for two hours longer.

Try chopped pecans as a substitution for the chocolate chips.

Ingredients :

3/4 cup butter or hard margarine softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 lrg egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 tsp cardamom optional
1/4 tsp salt

Cream butter and sugar in large bowl. Add egg and vanilla. Beat. Mix remaining ingredients in separate bowl. Stir into batter. (I then put the dough in the fridge to harden it a bit before I roll it.) Roll out 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into rounds or different shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheet in 350F (175C) oven for about 10 minutes. Cool. Decorate.

Makes 7 dozen cookies
Variation: For plain sugar cookies, sprinkle with granulated sugar before baking.
Variation: For decorated sugar cookies, sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles before baking or decorate baked cookies with icing.

Pecan-Chocolate Chip Cookie Brittle Recipe

Here's another free sample recipe from the Southern Living party. Pecans - chocolate - coconut...nope, can't go wrong with that combo! :-)

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup butter, melted and cooled slightly
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup semisweet chocolate mini-morsels
1 cup pecan pieces, toasted (see note)
1/2 cup sweetened flaked coconut, toasted (see note)

Directions
Combine first 4 ingredients; set aside. Stir together butter and next 3 ingredients in a large bowl; add flour mixture, stirring until smooth. Stir in chocolate morsels, pecans, and coconut. (Dough will look crumbly.) Press dough evenly into a lightly greased 17" x 11" jelly-roll pan, pressing almost to edges. Bake at 350° for 19 minutes or until lightly browned and cookie "slab" seems crisp. Cool completely in pan. Break cookie into pieces.

Note: You can toast pecan pieces and coconut in the same pan at 350° for 8 minutes.

Personal Notes: 18 minutes is enough. I used parchment paper on pan. I do not toast the pecans and coconut.

Every year my mom and I and now my neices make these recipes, easy peasy.
melt a bag of butterscotch chips and a cup of peanut butter pour over 6 cups of rice krispys put into a cake pan and let set up, these are terrific.

Church Windows
1 melted bag of chocolate chips
1 half bag of mini colored marshmallows
1 small bag of walnut pieces
powdered sugar
Mix together melted chocolate, marshmallows and walnuts. Take a piece of wax
paper and sprinkle it liberally with powdered sugar put one third of mixture on
top of sugar and shape into a roll fold the wax paper around the roll making
sure powdered sugar is in between mixture and paper all over. Do the same to
other two and put into the refrigerator. When chilled cut into about half inch
rounds.

easy oreo truffles
Prep Time: 30 min Total Time: 1 hr 30 min Makes: 3-1/2 doz. or 42 servings, one truffle each What You Need!1 pkg. (1 lb. 2 oz.) OREO Cookies, finely crushed, divided 1 pkg. (8 oz.) Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened 2 pkg. (8 squares each) Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate, melted Make It!
MIX 3 cups of the cookie crumbs and the cream cheese until well blended. Shape into 42 (1-inch) balls.

DIP balls in melted chocolate; place on waxed paper-covered baking sheet. (Any leftover melted chocolate can be stored in tightly covered container at room temperature and saved for another use.) Sprinkle with remaining cookie crumbs.

Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm. Store any leftover truffles in tightly covered container in refrigerator.
These are fabulous, everyone was fighting over these.

I like to research for the origin of things, especially cooking. It is often thrilling to see how our grandmothers did things. This time, I am searching for old fashioned recipes for Christmas, such as spekulatius recipe, stolen cakes, etc. I know there are some goodies that need a whole month of preparation before baking. Also, recipes you can store for a period. If anyone can oblige... My thanks in advance.

I have a couple recipes from my husbands Czech Grandmother that I love for Christmas.
One is Houska - a bread with golden raisins and slivered almonds and mace as a spice.
The other is Kolacky - a danish like desert. Yummy.
