garland hanging outsideSince our daughter's birthday is on the 4th of July I wanted to make some fun decorations that I could reuse. I am tired of buying the flimsy, cheap decorations at the store that only last one year. So I made this awesome garland to hang outside!

Supplies:

  • 6 fabric pieces, 1/2 yard each (2 red, 2 blue, and 2 white)
  • jute twine
  • scissors
  • ruler
prepared scraps

Steps:

  1. Measure every 2 inches along selvage edge, marking with a pencil.
  2. measure out 2 inch strips

  3. Use scissors to snip fabric, just past the selvage.
  4. snip through selvage

  5. Tear fabric into strips, starting at the snipped marks. The first and last strip may need to be trimmed to be 2 inches for the full length.
  6. tear strips

  7. Cut the selvages off each strip, then cut each strip into 11 inch pieces. You should get 4 pieces from each strip.

  9. Tie a loop at the end of the twine to hang the finished garland from. Take a piece of fabric and fold it in half. Put it behind the twine, bringing the ends up and through the loop. Pull both ends until it is pulled tightly onto the twine.
  10. adding fabric scrap 1

  11. Repeat alternating colors, until the garland reaches the desired length. Mine is 12 ft. long!
