Making a Recycled Book Angel

Total Time: 3 hours

Yield: one angel

Supplies:

• old church songbook ~ the one used measured 6" x 4.2" x 1" thick
• round polystyrene ball with a diameter of 75mm
• curly brown synthetic doll hair
• strip of soft silver net fabric
• pair of 15mm light green wiggle eyes
• pair of 10mm black wiggle eyes
• standard white economy paper plate
• 14 inch long gem covered white wire
• 40 clear seed beads
• 2 round pearl beads
• one clear glass pebble
• flesh colored acrylic paint
• Artline 210 Fineliner black pen
• red felt-tip pen
• Pilot silver marker pen
• standard scissors
• paintbrush
• long nosed pliers
• quick-drying craft glue (such as Bostik Clear)
• Pritt liquid project glue

Steps:

1. Remove the cover of the book.

 
2. Fold the top left corner of the left page down towards the middle of the book, as indicated in the picture. Continue folding the rest of the songbook's pages in the same way.

3. Use Bostik to glue the first and last pages of the book to each other, so that the book will have a shape of a cone with the sharp point on top.

 
4. Use Pritt liquid glue to glue the polystyrene ball to the top of the sharp point.

 
5. Paint the ball with the flesh paint and allow to dry.

 
6. Use Pritt to add the angel's hair.

7. Use Pritt to glue the green eyes to the face.

 
8. Make the crown:
   Use the pliers and bend the wire in half to make a V-shape. Add seven seed beads to each side of the wire. Below the seed beads, twist the ends of the wire. Add a seed bead and a pearl bead to each side. After the pearls, add 6 seed beads and use the pliers to make a loop in each side of the wire. Add two more seed beads to each side before making a final loop with the wire on each side. Cut the ends of the wire shorter so that the crown will fit to the angel's head.

9. Glue the crown to the angel's head.

 
10. Use the net fabric to add a scarf around her neck, make a knot and glue the pebble on top of the knot.

 
11. Use the black pen to add eyebrows, nostrils, and a mouth.

 
12. Add red cheeks with the felt-tip pen and use the black pen again to add small freckles.

13. Fold the paper plate in half and cut two wings from the plate. Use the silver pen to add detail to the wings. Glue the wings to two of the pages from the songbook.

 
14. Cut the black wiggle eyes open and remove the black discs. Glue the black discs on top of the green wiggle eyes to add pupils to the eyes.

 
15. When displaying the angel, spread out the pages of the book as evenly as possible and voila!

They are called hymn book angels, I don't know if this will help you, the back and front part of the book make up the wings.
