Try the local library, the school library, nursing homes, and possibly just put it up for "free to pick up" on Craigslist in your area.

Good luck to you if you can find ANYONE who will take those. Nobody wants old encyclopedias any more. You may have to recycle them. These are now considered dinasours which is unfortunate.

People are starting to alter books as a cheap way to scrapbook. They may want them if they are for a mimial cost or free.

You might ask any missionary organization you know. We caught an encyclopedia set on FreeCycle last year, and contacted our church.

They were more than happy to take them for their Philippine faith-based school.

Do old sets of encyclopedias have any value? Can they be donated anywhere or do they have to be recycled?

The true value is the ones that are 100+ years old. In some cases you can list them in your area and try to sell them this way. A lot of times you can earn around $50 for the set.

Normally people are no longer taking donations of old encyclopedias and a lot of times people need to recycle them.

You could try a auction/bid for them to try and get the best price! Although unless they are over 100 years they do not bring in more than $50 most of the time! Maybe there is a collector out there who wants to add to there personal library!

Put an ad on a local Freecycle or Buy and Sell, and see if any one wants them. Some artists use them for art projects, and craftspeople make lamps and such out of them. You could contact groups such as Scouts or Guides or the like to see if they might want them for some sort of craft.

Perhaps the art department in a school, for use in altered book projects. You can not donate them to the Salvation Army, Good Will, or other Thrift Shops.
