To easily remove mascara, even waterproof mascara, wet a washcloth, put on a small amount of lotion to one small area of the cloth, and wipe off the mascara with ease.
I've always had long, dark lashes. Way back in the 60's I used to wear a lot of mascara and gave no thought to what I did to my skin while trying to remove it. Now that I'm in my early 60's, the years of tugging and scrubbing really shows around my eyes. Regretfully, I can't afford surgery. In an attempt to do no more damage, I rarely use mascara, only on special occasions, maybe a dozen times a year or so. I love the look, but getting it off is still an ordeal. Everything burns my eyes, even baby oil. Any ideas?

I don't wear makeup often but when I do I use baby shampoo (Johnsons)to remove my eye makeup. I have never had any problems with it burning my eyes. Make sure you use a good brand though, because I have used a generic brand that did burn.
Ever since I started wearing mascara (eons ago), I always have taken my mascara off with Petroleum Jelly. Not only does it take off the mascara easily, but it also conditions your eyelashes and the skin around your eyes. I purchase a 8oz jar at the $Dollar Store.
I will always wear mascara, short of not having any eyelashes (I am in my mid 50's). :)Smile on that. If you want to buy something specially made for make-up removal, I suggest Neutrogena Make Up Remover wipes.
If it is not waterproof mascara, you may try to use soothing lotion for eyes such as "Dacryoserum". I do not know if you will find it in the US. Use any other lotion special for eyes.
I use "olive oil soap" from health store.
Use baby wipes for sensitive skin. It works like magic!
What is the best way to remove waterproof mascara?
By Michele Skof from Aliquippa, PA
I use babyoil on a cotton ball.
Does baby oil remove all remnants of mascara? I have used petroleum jelly, which works well, but I still have residue on my lashes and I have to use a lot. Thanks
My teenage daughter and I use a product called Albolene. You can usually find it at Wal-Mart and Walgreens, and a container of it lasts us several months.
I use a few drops of baby oil on a kleenex to remove my eye makeup and yes it even removes waterproof mascara. The baby oil also keeps the wrinkles away.
Ditto on using baby oil :-)
I too have been using baby oil for years. A small bottle at the dollar store lasts a long, long time. I put it on a cotton ball. Then I just wash my face as usual with cleansing clothes or I use Pond's Cold Cream.
I use baby wipes. I just rip a little piece off when I need. There is still enough of the wipe to clean the baby.
Thank you Ladies! I sounds like baby oil is the good bet.
I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover. It is not expensive, leaves no oily residue, and lasts a long time.
Don't spend a lot of money on fancy named eye creams and mascara remover. Johnson's Baby Shampoo (No Tears) is great. A bottle will last for ever. Just put a nickel size in your hand put on lashes and rinse it off. The best thing is No Tears and it's cheap!
I had the same problem and was thrilled to find a great solution. I purchased cloths made for removing mascara from Norwex, a company that sells high quality, silver infused products to hospitals in Norway.
